Question about Dell OptiPlex GX620 PC Desktop

2 Answers

I have a Dell GX620 that I rescycled. It wouldn't power up so I put in a different power source and put in 1 - 512 stick of memory. It then started up and I reformatted the hard drive and re-installed Windows XP. It would then keep restarting and so I installed Windows 7. Then I added two new 1 Gb memory sticks and two 512's. After doing all that was instructed to convert to Windows 7 it worked for a while and now it has started shutting down on its own and restarting again? Any ideas on this?

As stated I would also recommend going back to just the original 'stick' of ram memory. See if the computer restarts. It would seem your problems started after installing the new ram memory. What does your reference of 'Recycled' mean? You purchased the computer used, and are upgrading it? You built it from many other parts of other computers? Can you tell me the manufacturer of the ram memory modules ('Sticks'), and the manufacturer code on the side of the ram memory modules? Please state in a Comment. Also, what power supply is it?

Just leave in one of the new 1gb stick of memory
if stable memory was the issue so add the back one at a time each time shut down install turn on test
if still unstable coould be the hard drive

Open the box (unplugged) and take the memory out. Plug it back it, if you turn it on and there are no beeps, the motherboard has gone bad. Only fix is to replace the motherboard, or replace the whole computer. If it does beep, the memory is bad; replace the RAM (memory) While you have the computer open look at the little can like objects close to the back opening of the computer. If they have brown goo on top of them, or around them, or if the tops of some of them are dome shape, the motherboard is shot. This was a common problem with some of the OptiPlex units.

First of all make sure that recommended hardware requirements are met.
Also you need to update Display adapter drivers also update other drivers that control your PC.

I would suggest to update drivers by downloading it from device manufacturer website.

Dell Optiplex GX620 Desktop PC's south bridge IC heats up abnormally...

Check the capacitors on the motherboard, Dell had a BIG problem with faulty capacitors on the GX270, GX520, GX620, GX745 and GX755 units. The parts would cause the unit to either not boot at all or lockup booting or running programs. I would bet you have some that are just beginning to fail and the motherboard power is not stable which would mean the chips are not getting enough power. Here is a link to an article about the issue and what to look for on your board.

Hello, i have a dell inspiron 530 and when i turn it on, all you hear is the fan spinning and it doesnt stop. Nothing comes up on the screen and i've checked all the parts and everything seems fine....

Hello-

Welcome to FixYa, the world's largest product support community.

Most of the time if a Desktop computer turns on but you see nothing on the screen,
It may be an issue w/ the monitor or it's cable connection.

Please verify that the monitor cable is connected to the correct port. By default the Dell™ Inspiron™ 530 only comes w/ a VGA monitor port (built-in graphics adapter) at the back unless you installed a discrete graphics adapter on the computer.

If the monitor is connected to the correct port then you might consider running a monitor Power-on Self Test (P.O.S.T).

How to do a Monitor Power-on Self Test (P.O.S.T)
1. Unplug the monitor's data cable, this is the cable that goes to the back of your computer tower.
If you are using an old monitor most likely you have a VGA monitor. Unplug the VGA cable.
2. Make sure the monitor's power cable is plugged in.
3. Turn the computer on.

I have a dell optiplex gx620 pc and the fan stopped what to do?

I am using a dell optiplex gx620 pc at this moment and the fan rarely runs admittedly as this is a small system i.e. very slim and I have the side cover off to accommodate a larger size graphics card and it keeps quite cool.
The fan should only run when it needs to cool down the possessor I rarely hear mine run.
Unless the computer overheating I wouldn’t worry but if you are you can clip off the side and test it with a battery.
Its easy to get at it's located at the bottom left of the motherboard connected to the board by a plug with a blue black red yellow multi cable pull off the cable and externally test the fan.

I can't get into windows of my Dell Optiplex GX620. I try but the computer gives the following message: <<Stop C000021a. Fatal System Error. The session manager initialized system process terminated...

You most likely have a hardware issue. Very possibly memory.
You'll need to troubleshoot that by disconnecting everything in the case but the video, CPU, and memory and see if it starts OK.
Then hook up the hard drive and see if you can boot into Windows. If you can't, unplug one of the memory sticks and try it. Then the other memory stick and try.
If you have a Windows startup (installation disk), boot from that and opt for system repair. You will want to get to the command prompt and run chkdsk.
