Handle broke on door of GE spacesaver microwave oven
My Model # is JMV1653WD 001 and I don't know if you need the serial number as well, but here it is also... RA9288095 and last but not least Manuf. date is Aug. 2001. If you could help me locate a new handle with the directions on how to replace it that would be very helpful. Thankyou, Lynn

Actually the door handle CAN be replaced at a cost much less than pruchasing an entire new microwave oven. And, YOU can repair this yourself and save the cost of a service call. On MOST microwave ovens, you just have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to replace the door handle:
TIP: Go to the web and type www.partselect.com enter your model number then scoll down to your part. Panel, door (PANEL DOOR) click to enlarge exploded diagram on left. Veiw enlarged diagram at top of page. You can print the entire diagram for exact assembly by holding your pointer in the upper left hand corner of diagram. Select the print icon. Now you have what you need. If you found any of these suggestions helpful, please rate my solution. D. Lange
Its a free country Bage, but microwave energy is extremely dangerous! Repairs are not feasible unless performed by factory personnel under warrantry, and certified. I suggest you contact the manufacturer about the problem.
I have the same issue. The Handle broke off my GE Microwave Oven (Model JVM1190SY 001). GE does not sell the handle seperately from what I can tell. I just ordered a new door. It's rediculously expensive. I tried to replace the handle with a nice drawer pull but couldn't find a size pull to match and I broke the plastic cover trying to get access to the screws for the handle, which is why I decided to buy the new door. Hopefully installation is not that difficult. This oven was manufactured in 2001, seems the handles have a 7 year life span.
