That means 2 things : the first one is that the multi tap is damaged and it's not gonna work second thing is that the slot of ur ps2 is not working
so to know the problem u can go to one of ur friends who have a ps2 and u can test it there if it works ,so u'll know that the problem is from the slot in ur ps2 and if it doesn't work so the problem will be from the multi tap

Ok Turn On Your PS2 Make Sure You Don't have a disk inside. It should show you Browser, System Configuration, and if u press triangle it will take u to the Version menu go to console look at you console code ex. SCPH-77001. Then look at you muti tap to see if they have the same code if it does should work not the same code will not work.
There were two versions of the multi-tap made; one for the original fat
PS2 and a smaller version made for the slim. The two versions are
incompatible with the other PS2. If you have the original multi-tap
connected to the slim, it should throw out the 'controller
disconnected' message when you boot up. The slim version of the
multi-tap should have a sticker on the bottom saying 'only works with
models SCPH-70000, SCPH-75001, SCPH-75002'.
Other than the sports games, I don't recall any titles that allow more than two players anyway.
I bought the Multi-Tap. I have tried to set it up for 4 players and it doesn't funtion.
I have the right game and still it doesn't even respond. I checked the Version and it was a right one.
I plugged it into Port 1 and plug 4 controllers into the Multi-tap and a memory card into Multi-tap's Slot A.
What should I do? All I am guessing is that the product was deffective. Am I missing something?
1 of 2 problems.
1:- the port on the console has a fault, do they work normally when a single controller is in them ?
2:- bad or broken connection in the multi-port itself.
Hope this helps Mike @ compurepair.
I had this same problem. Try plug the multi tap into the player 2 port (with a controler in the player 1 port) and so on try different arangement for the controllers (mine worked with the way i wrote). If this doesnt help, a friend of mine had a problem with the contacts in the muti tap (or the controlers), if you are experience you could try open it up and make the contacts stick out a lil more or (more preferably) contact the producer of your multitap they may be able to repair it for a decent fee
