Question about Acer NSK8458AN Keyboard

Open Question

I turned on the Alt Car function while typing, and I can't figure out how to reset the keyboard. I've tried Fn+AltCar, and Fn+Ctrl+AltCar, but nothing works. How do I make it go back?

SOURCE: Function is not turning off

Try holding down the function key and hitting the numlock or scroll lock key, this is usually how you engage or disengage the laptops function keys on the keyboard . Most laptops have a light that will turn on and off when you do this, indicating that the funtion keys are in use.

SOURCE: trying to toggle from blue keys to white keys

Hi,

You have to hold the shift key down and then hit the question mark key.

In the picture above the key is white but most of them are black. There are 2 shift keys at either ends of the keyboard with the trade mark up arrows on them.

SOURCE: Is there any way to make Fn key working as Ctrl,

Hi,
You can download a software "Keytweak", which would help you in remapping the keys in the keyboard, so with the help of key tweak you can swap the Fn and the Ctrl Key.

Function key for Rupee symbol in lenovo keyboard?

Maybe you have to Press and Hold the FN function key at the lower left portion of the keyboard then hit key 4 to get the rupee. Or it might be Press and Hold the ALT or CTRL key then hit key 4 to get it.

The key to know which key to Press and Hold is notice the color of the rupee symbol on key 4, then Press and Hold either the FN function key, Alt key or Ctrl that is the same color as the rupee.

HOW TO DEACTIVATE TEH Fn KEY IN DELL LAPTOP

Hi names Rui, to turn Fn in you dell you need to:

1. Open your laptop and turn it on. Then locate the Fn key. It is located on the lower left side of the keyboard, next to the Ctrl key.

2. Press and release the Fn key. Now examine the keyboard carefully. You'll notice that many of the keys have icons or letters and numbers printed in blue upon them. These keys and functions are operated when the Fn key is enabled, as you've just done. Test it out by looking at the lower right side of the keyboard. You'll see two keys with small blue "sun" icons. These control the brightness of the screen. Press the lower one several times and you'll see the screen darken. Press the upper one. The screen brightens.

3. Press and release the Fn key again. Now try using the brightness keys. The screen brightness will not change. You've turned off the Fn key.

The Fn key (also known as the Function key) is a feature found on most laptop computers. The Fn key allows keys on a laptop computer's keyboard to serve more than one function, a clever way of increasing the utility of the keyboard when space is limited. Dell laptops make good use of the Fn key, and if you own a Dell laptop, you should be aware of where the key is and how to use it. So i hope this will help you.

The number lock feature is enabled. You should see an indicator for the Num Lock (lit when on) that is next to the Caps Lock indicator.

You should be able to disable the lock by pressing Fn and Num Lock together on the keyboard. (On some Sony Vaio keyboards, type CTRL+ALT+NumLock or Shift+NumLock.) The number lock should be at the top of the keyboard near the F1-F12 keys. Sometimes the key is shared with the Scroll Lock function (otherwise it will be nearby). It's really easy for the Number lock to be enabled on some Sony keyboards; just some dirt between the keys can enable it when you didn't turn it on intentionally.

I hope this helps.

My mouse is not working on my laptop, it wont move

Hello debbiestar34,
Typically on a laptop computer there is an extra set of keys called the function keys. You will notice these keys are identified (usually) by a different colour of text on the keys of your keyboard.
You can probably find a key labeled "Fn" or "Function" in the bottom left of your keyboard, between the "Ctrl" and "Alt" buttons. Once you've found that key, look at your other keys and you should see one that somewhat resembles the touchpad on your computer or a simple rectangle with a mouse cursor inside it.
If you've found both of those keys, start by pressing and holding the "Fn" key, then press the one for your touchpad then release both keys. That should work.

Hello,

Most Compaqs have the following to the left of the space bar:

Ctrl - Fn - Win Symbol - Alt

However some have this layout:

Ctrl - Win Symbol - Alt - Fn

If you post the model # we could say for sure.

Thanks for using Fixya.

How do I use the "AltCar" on my labtop?

Okay, I know this is an old question but when i searched for the same problem recently, it was the nearest I could find. So in case others are having the same problem:

The Vaio you have is a Canadian model, which has alternate keyboard drivers for English and French. The alt car key only works with the French keyboard (durr). To switch, press the LEFT control key and RIGHT shift key at the same time, then release. Now if you use the alt car key like the shift key, i.e. hold it down then press another key, you should be able to access the pink characters. To return to English keyboard, press left-ctrl and right-shift together again.

Control Button stopped working? How to reset?

Actually it matters not what computer you have, it's the operating system that's the problem. This is a very common fault in windows 7 and to a lesser extent XP. There are a few problem areas and solutions. Firstly, forget uninstalling the keyboard drivers or checking your files with scannow or doing malware adware checks, or ctrl alt fn buttons or installing Clipspy or going back to restore points. that's all BS and a complete waste of time, these answers are usually offered up by people who have never experienced the problem and actually muddy the waters with all sorts of number lock key board this and that answers BS answers. Put-up or shut-up! You either know the answer to the problem or you don't, and you don't if you haven't experienced it. It's annoying, frustrating and shows just how far Microsoft hasn't come.

The underlying problems with losing ctrl C ctrl V arise with eithe;r Java and/or Skype, or both. 1) Skype updates knock out the control C control V function, usually with the BS click call, it's not compatible with windows 7 and has a number of conflicts that Skype, although they claim to have patch fixed, have not solved. Even their click to call conflict patch doesn't work, an error message comes up on the download no matter where you get it from. 2) Java has conflicts with Windows 7, control panel type in Java,go to updates, if the update doesn't work you will have to remove and restore Java. It has comp 3) You can sometimes solve the problem by force switching-off your computer, without going through the normal sequence, then starting it in safe mode, which may load any missing files that have been knocked out by the aforementioned Java and Skype. Failing this, and as a last resort, you're going to restore to factory restore, but remember, this will only work for a while, until Skype updates its system and bang you'll be down again. So make sure Skype cannot update, go into Skype tools, updates, turn-off automatic updates. I hope this helps. I've had the problem 14 times and lost the will to live going through the myriad of file, sequence, number lock,uninstalls,file/malware checks BS that's out there. Even Microsoft help doesn't list the problem. James

You'll finish up going to all sorts of forums and none of the geeks or pseudo geeks have much input. Forget even the retore poin
