Question about Maytag Dryers

1 Answer

Have a Maytag dryer that is not cooling down during the cool down cycle. Have cleaned out the exhaust duct and ensured it is level. Still seems to be heating up on the cool down. Seems the top of dryer is extremely hot at that point. What to look at next? Dryer is about three years old.

My Maytag Bravos XL electric dryer doesn't dry clothes. When I try to run a second cycle it seems like it's too hot and won't start again until it cools.

Make sure your vent pipe is clean and filter is clean. Air flow is number one reason for dryer failure, Check the whole inside of the dryer for lint build up and in the exhaust pipe. The dryer has to vent the humid air in order to dry the clothing. If it can't do that, it overheats and also the humidity stays inside the dryer.

My dryer keeps blowing the thermal fuse help

Check your lint filter, exhaust duct, and check if duct flapper is opening fully or not. Allow some time between loads and don't stuff too many clothes.

Gas smell inside maytag neptune gas dryer

gas has an oderant added to it and in your dryer in the cool down it allows most of the gas to be removed.if you smell gas when the dryer is off and empty, then you have a gas leak.thanks karl

Dryer shut off during cycle, unable to restart, does not start when pushing knob.

sounds like your blower is either clog, or the exhaust duct is clog with lint. also pull the front face off and clean out the location where the filter sits, they become clog over time and no ones cleans there. Your over heat protection circiut shuts down the dryer when it cannot exhaust enough air.

No Exhaust? Very Damp-not dry clothes

i would check for further blockage. also check the blower fan to make sure it is blowing properly. sometimes the blower fan can wear on the motor shaft and slip, thus reducing the air flow considerably. sometimes i have found the blockage just at the point of the blower fan.
good luck; jay

My electric dryer is becoming extremely hot during the drying cycle. I replaced a blown thermal fuse several weeks ago and the dryer was extremely hot at that time. The dryer runs but becomes so hot you...

Clothes will get very hot in the dry cycle, especially when the dryer is set to the warmest or hottest setting.
There are controls built into the unit to prevent it from overheating to the point of causing a fire. The thermal fuse you replaced is one of them (and I assume you replaced a perfectly good fuse with a new one as you said it was very hot.).
You might want to check the following if you feel the unit is getting too hot -

1) Make sure the lint screen is clean.
2) Make sure the hose between the back of the dryer and the exhaust duct at the wall wall is not kinked or full of lint.
3) Make sure the exhaust duct leading to outside of the house is clear and not full of lint.

Let me know what you find.

GE Harmony Dryer dries fine one time won't quit sensing the next

The thermostatic fuse is getting hot during the run cycle and then staying open until the dryer cools down completely.

You may fix just by cleaning out the entire dryer. Remove the top cover and vacuum out thoroughly. Replace a torn lint screen and make sure your exhaust conduit is not leaking lint everywhere.

If you can't fix by cleaning, you will have to replace the thermostat which is a $5 part byt a $100 repair.

Dryer too hot...no cool down

no the thermal fuse has nothing to do with that, although it will open again if too hot and that may be why it opened in the first place.most high heat ,long dry times are the house ducting.try this experiment.remove your dryer from the house ducting and dry a load[it wont hurt a thing]if not as hot, then get that ducting cleaned.if still hot then make sure the inner dryer air ways are clean.your blower is spinning fine[not broken on the shaft]and also check with ohm meter,or visually that your heating element is not shorted to ground[then it by passes the cycling thermostat.if all those things good and still getting high heat i may replace the cycling thermo.but as a repairman i did not have to do that very often.most of the time it was the other possibles. i hope this helps abit God bless ,tom

Dryer not going to cool down cycle, thermal fuse failed 2x

Most problems like this arise from air flow problems. You need to break down the dryer and clean out the lint. Including removal of the filter housing.making sure your outside vent is clear as well.If that fuse keeps blowing you especially need to remove and rinse out that filter housing.
