If you are missing drivers (you should go to the control panel and sounds to check this) are missing, you can download them from the Acer site.
Also, check this link for troubleshooting:

How to change soubd tone on acer aspire one

  • Find out which audio controller is installed on the system. Go to the "Control Panel" and double-click on the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. Click on the "Audio" tab to see what is listed for the default device for sound playback.
  • Download driver and software updates directly from Acer's website (see Resources). Save the files to a folder, and then run the setup program to install the software.

  • Download and install a new software driver for your laptop's on-board audio controller. Many audio controllers in Acer Aspire laptops use the AC97 Audio Codec driver. Go to the Realtek website and click on the "Downloads" tab to see available software (see Resources).

  • Adjust the sound using the Master Volume setting. Right-click on the audio icon on the toolbar and select "Open Volume Control." Use the Master Volume and Wave input settings to adjust the volume of the audio that is being heard.

  • Use a software program such as the Realtek Sound Effect Manager to control and adjust the laptop's audio settings. There should be an icon on the desktop or toolbar, but you can also find the program in the Control Panel as well. The program contains an equalizer with presets to choose from as well as mixer and audio I/O options.

No Sound Device

Try deleting the the AC97 from the listing of hardware in the Control Panel/System/Device Manager and rebooting.
This will force Windows to 'find' it and install some kind of driver as long as it is still functional.

If it asks for a piece of software from disk or location, browse to the folder where you have the downloaded Realtek stuff' if it finds a driver/inf file it likes, it will grab it.

BTW, I hope you are running system restore, you could have saved some time by restoring to a date prior to your program removal.

No Sound being installed

Most Acers use RealTek for sound/audio....As well as other utilities that are readily available at the Acer Uk site. Below is the url for those utilities....

http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5680.html

Download the Audio/RealTek....choose next on installation...then if prompted...restart...
The RealTek panel should show on your taskbar. If not, go to start, all programs, then to real tek.

This should solve your sound problems. If not, please let me know and we'll get this working for you..

Thanks
