Question about Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Printer

1 Answer

I downloaded the driver for the 1400 specifically for my Mac operating system 10.6 but I can't change the print size. The "Print" page lists the only size as 8.5 x 11. Supposedly I can change that using "Preview" but I can't find "Preview" for a Photoshop picture.

I EVENTUALLY FOUND OUT HOW TO CHANGE THE SIZE BUT YOUR REPLY DIDN'T HELP. WHAT I DISCOVERED WAS THAT THE CHOICE OF EITHER THE PRINTER OR PHOTOSHOP CONTROLLING COLORS (THE CHOICE CAN BE FOUND ON THE "PRINT" WINDOW) IS THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE THE PRINT SIZE. THE DEFAULT APPARENTLY WAS THE PRINTER CONTROLLING COLORS AND THEREFORE THE PRINT SIZE IS ALWAYS 8.5 X 11. I CHANGED THE CHOICE TO PHOTOSHOP AND THEN I COULD CHANGE THE PRINT SIZE! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT COLOR CONTROL WOULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH PRINT SIZE???
VERY WEIRD. I THINK I'LL CONTACT ADOBE ABOUT THIS.

Later versions of Photoshop have only the page setup option from which you can change it. The page setup option can be found under File menu. Give it a shot and let me know.

Ok I now realized what you have done. Previously you had chosen the print type "Photo" . It will give you perfect color but the print size would be small. Reset to default changes the print type back to document which increases the print size but a lot of colors would be missing. What appears simple is not always so. Page setup is the way to go

Try to uninstall and then reinstall it again but make sure you get the correct printer driver based on operating system and model number of the printer. otherwise it will not work.if still not working, try to download diff driver.

Can't use it with my Mac : one component missing

What is the version of your Mac operating system? It would be best that you uninstall any existing printer driver first > reboot your computer > then reinstall the printer driver.

Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark X5470 Printer Driver on your computer. Select your operating system > click on "FILTER" > click on the driver under Recommended Downloads > download and execute the file. Simply follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete the installation.

Then try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

Problem may be the paper tray. You don't say what kind of printer you have and my psychic abilities are nil.
The paper tray has sensors that tell the printer what size paper is in the tray. Make sure that the tray guides are set correctly.
By the way all paper trays are "in" trays.
Print out a config sheet to see what size paper the printer is set up for for each tray.

Printing not possible . message " print spooler service not ready"

As most people run Windows on their computer, I will describe how the printing setup works on that operating system. The *nix and Mac operating systems differ slightly in the details but verall are set up similar.
There are two parts to the print dialog box on Windows. The first of these is part of the Windows API (Application Programming Interface). The API is a set of common code pieces that are held in the various DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files that are part of the Windows operating system. Any Windows program can (and should) call the API to perform common functions such as displaying the Print Dialog box so that it will work the same way in all programs and not have different options in different places the way the print option did back in DOS program days. The Print Dialog API also provides a common interface allowing all programs access to the same set of printer drivers rather than printer manufacturers having to create driver software for their printer for each individual program that wanted to use it.
The printer drivers are the other half of the print dialog. There are several different languages that different printers understand that they use to control how the page prints (eg. PCL5 and Postscript). The printer driver instructs the Print API as to how to translate the standard internal print format that the operating system understands into the custom markup language that the specific printer understands. It also adjusts the options that the Print dialog displays to reflect the options offered by the specific printer.
An individual computer may have no printers installed, it may have one local printer, it may have access to several printers over a network, it may even be set up to print to PDF or preformatted print file. Where more than one "printer" is defined one of them is designated the default printer which means that it is the one that displays its details in the print dialog when it first appears.
The operating system keeps track of the default printer and identifies that printer to the various programs on the computer. This allows the programs to pass an extra parameter to the print API telling it to print directly to the default printer without displaying the print dialog first. Many programs have two different print options - a menu entry that displays the print dialog and a toolbar fast print button that sends direct to the default printer.okay another one is

A print spooler is software that temporarily stores print jobs on the computer hard disk or in memory until the printer is ready to print them. If you've been waiting an unusually long time for a document to print, or if you see an error message about the print spooler, spooler subsystem, or spooler resources, you might need to change and then restart the Print Spooler service on your computer.

To do this, we recommend that you save your work, and then restart the computer to restart the Print Spooler service. If you don't want to restart the computer, try these steps instead.
To change or restart the Print Spooler service

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

  1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools.

  2. Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  3. Right-click the Print Spooler service, and then click Properties.

  • Turn off the printer.

  • Click the Spotlight sw_mac_5_er.gif icon in the upper-right corner of your screen. In the search field type Epson, then click Show All.

  • Select all the files and folders with Epson in the name and drag them to the trash.

  • Open your hard drive, select Library > Printers, the Epson folder and drag it to the trash.

  • On your hard drive, select Users > Library > Preferences > Epson, select the files named
com.apple.print.[XXXXXXX].plist (XXXXXX represents any name) and then drag the files to the trash.

  • From the Apple menu, select System Preferences and click Print & Fax.

  • Press the Control and Apple button on your keyboard at the same time, then click anywhere in the printer list. Select Reset printing system....

  • drv_mac_751_er.gif

  • Click OK, when you see the screen below.

  • drv_mac_750_er.gif

Note: Resetting the printing system will remove all printers from the Printer list. You'll need to Add the printers you want again.

  • Restart your Mac.

  • Reinstall the Mac OS X 10.6.x upgrade.

  • From the Apple menu, select System Preferences and then click Print & Fax.

  • Turn on the printer. Your Mac will add the printer automatically. If your printer does not appear automatically try the following:

    • Update your version of Mac OS X 10.6.x. If there is a driver available for your printer in a later version of Mac OS X 10.6.x, your Mac will automatically add the printer when you turn the printer on.

    • Check if there is a Macintosh OS X 10.6.x driver available from the Drivers & Downloads page for your product. If it's available, download the driver and follow the on-screen installation instructions to install driver.

Canon i560 print driver for Mac OS X 10.5 (leopead)

Ruth...unfortunately you must wait on Canon to get a print driver that works.

Background: In the process of creating and publishing new operating systems Apple contacts all of the peripheral manufacturers that they have to support and gives them the interface criteria for their new operating system. In this list is printers. When the operating system is published it does not include all printers because many times the printer manufacturers don't have time to react.

One of the criteria is how good is the information that Apple gave them for the interface. Printer drivers are time-related and often are tricky to write. This sounds like the version that you have (4.83) is not a good version or may be interacting with other software combinations that only you have that weren't tested. I wouldn't be suprised if they came out with 4.84 this week.

Your best bet is to contact Canon directly with your problem and keep on them until they have it solved. Mention that your only option at this point is to buy someone else's (not Canon) printer. Every new version of a print driver is some solution to a problem that they have had in the past or a new compatibility with new operating system. Remember that Canon has limited resources and money (incentive) to fix your problem and may not be as responsive as you would like. Also, Apple is still the minority player in the operating system market (less incentive).

My solution: continue to contact Canon until you get an a fix.
    - cost...your time and effort. Time to fix...???
My second solution: buy another printer (not a Canon). Make sure it is in the list that Apple (specifically Mac OS X 10.5) says they have drivers that they have tested.
    - cost...$150US maybe. Time to fix...immediate.

I am not clear with the quarry you ask but what I understand that you can print larger the A4.so in all Konica Minolta printers which I have used we must specify the paper size before printing in the printer properties and confirm that the same paper size we have putt in the printer’s tray. if more then one trays and installed in the printer the printer can print all available paper size without specify them. But spouse if you send a legal size print to the printer and there in no legal size paper in the paper tray then it will show a error.
What I think it is paper size issues please check it and make sure the trays are fixed to the size which you putt in.
