Question about Jandy Lite 2 Natural Gas Pilot Light Heater

1 Answer

I ran my Jandy Lite 2 pool heater for 6 hours yesterday and the pool temp did not alter. The burners are working but the water is still cold. I have a seperate line that runs off just after the header for the pool slide I opened the valve and it is running cold. Is it a thermostat or something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated

There are only two things that can cause a heater to run yet doesn't adequately heat the water. One is a clogged up and sooted over heat exchanger. It seems odd you do not mention periodic cycling of the heater too as usually you get heat roll-out from the bottom of the heater when this condition is present and that will trip a heat sensor from time to time.

Opening the top of the heater to expose the heat exchanger tubing will confirm this. If it is all tarred over it needs to be removed and steam cleaned and/or power washed to remove all the soot; once cleaned the heat can then be transferred thru the exchanger into the water.

The other possibility is poor gas flow either due to poor gas pressure or clogged up orifices, manifold or burner tubes. With the heater running inspect the flames from below. If they are bright blue and 2 - 4 inches tall on all the burners you heater is running fine. If not, you need to resolve the gas flow issue.

Some pool heaters have an internal bypass valve that improves efficiency by limiting the amount of water flowing through the heat exchanger. These can stick so that water flow mostly bypasses the heat exchanger...the heater gets hot but very little heat is tranferred to the pool.
