SOURCE: I have a Sony SLV-EZ717

It sounds like the taped program was recorded on a different speed. The other VCR that you are playing the taped program may not have the speed needed to play it correctly.
Next time when you record a program try to make sure you use a speed that will be compatible on both VCRs.
For example a tape that last 120 minutes, using the different speeds will give the following recording times.
SP means "Standard Play" >>>> 2 hours
LP means " Long Play" >>>>> 4 hours
ELP means " Extra Long Play" 8 hours

Older VCRs have all the 3 speeds but newer ones only have SP and ELP.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: no picture

I assume this symptom appears when attempting to play a tape? If the picture is mostly snow, VCR may need video head cleaning. To do this, take the top cover off- You will note a cylindrical shiny aluminum drum- the actual heads are at the lower edge of this rotating drum.

Anyway, use a lint free cloth or special wipe moistened with rubbing alcohol, or product specifically made for such, carefully cleaning those heads as well as the drum itself. Occasionally, it may take 2 or 3 cleanings.

If the VCR has lots of hours, or abrasive head cleaners have been used, the head could be worn out. If so, toss the rig and purchase a new one. Head replacement is non-economical unless you have a high end machine.

Is the TV a USA model? In which case it will use the NTSC system of colour and not the PAL one. You will need to check if the TV can be switch to PAL system for DVD or if the DVD can output it as NTSC. Or you need a convertor box.

The problem is vertical failure. Vertical output section to your TV ahs the fault. You ahve to check the vertcial output circuit for any component failure or loose solderings.

Hi there, Having some trouble with the Sony SLV-SE830 VHS VCR. It should just work once the power is switched on and the SCART lead is connected to the back of the TV and the AV channel is set to the...

If you tv has more than one SCART connector.. ensure you have the cable plugged into the proper one.

Not sure what the problem is.. if you have a modern bidirecitonal SCART cable properly connected.. you should be able to view and hear the tape as it plays.. assuming the machine is in good condition.

Of course if you want to record a program other than the one you are watching you will ned to supply an independent broadcast signal to the VCR.. and yes you may have to program the tuner on the VCR if you want to record.

However if you simply wish to view tapes.. you shoud be set to use the machine as connected.

Best of Luck!
