Question about Singer 2932 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Open Question

I just bought a Singer 2932. Everything is threaded correctly and put into place correctly (I triple checked the manual). However, when I move the needle downwards, it jams in the down position and won't go forwards more. It does go backwards perfectly, but I cannot sew anything. I eyeballed the inside where the needle interacts with the bobbin, and well... nothing seems to be amiss? I'm not sure, since I've never had a sewing machine this complex before. Nothing in the manual seems to help. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Hand Wheel Won't Turn

The "Bobbin stopper" is in the incorrect position. It moves from side to side in a switch like motion. In one direction, it locks up the machine. That is, you can turn the wheele backwards, but not forward.. The bobbin stopper can be found in the book that cam with the machine. In our book, it is item #9.

SOURCE: singer 2932 automatic threader

A new part is faster and easier but sometimes the problem is a bent hook( the tiny part which goes through the eye of the needle). Remove the needle to see the part better and pull the threader down. Look in the very center of the threader for the hook. It is probably pushed to the right.Using a small screwdriver or other thin piece of metal, force the hook back to the center. Try it and continue until it enters the eye again. By the way, a Singer dealer can get this part for you for under $10.

SOURCE: I have a singer model

I've been sewing since I was six (with mom's help), but all sewing machines are basically the same. The feed dog, which is what advances the fabric is most likely not moving. If you look at the area just under the presser foot & needle you'll see little "teeth". This is the feed dog. Take the thread out of the needle and run the machine without any fabric. Watch those teeth. They should rise & lower into the base. If they don't move when the foot pedal is pressed, then that is your problem and you'll need to take it to a repair shop. Good luck.

What size bobbin does a Singer model number 2932 take?

Take a look in your manual-the manuals from Singer tell you the bobbin to use. If you've lost your copy, go to http://thesewingcenter.com/parts-c-626_715_963_1206.html and you can download a new one for free. It's always a good idea to have a copy around. You never know when you're going to need it.

My machine motor will run but the needle won't move up and down unless I manually move it. I can hear the motor running but nothing is moving on the machine. I've tried checking everything and am out of...

Its sound like the belt is slipping, maybe if its under warranty try to call the place that sold it to you. Most motor belts are accessable for adjustment and servicing. Its on the right side under the handwheel.

The thread is not locked and no stitch formation

I know you do not want to hear it but your threading is not correct. Do this test, put the presser foot up, pull on the top thread it should pull smoothly, now put the presser foot down, pull the thread again and it should barely move. You have to make sure that the thread is getting the correct tension in the threading path and not tangled. Now check your bobbin threading, is the thread pulling smoothly? If, not see the way your bobbin is unwinding, do you have it in backwards? By the way, how is your needle, when is the last time you changed it? Do so now and make sure that it right size for your material and inserted right, flat side face the rear. Have you done any maintenance? Like oiling, cleaning out lint and such? Refer to your manual for oiling points. If, you do not have a manual go to www.singerco.com and download a free one and enlarge the diagrams to see everything really clear and save a copy. Singer have excellent customer service, and can be reached at 1-800-4singer.

I have a Singer Special Zig Zag Model 418. I can

More than likely you have a broken vertical shaft gear.

When you turn the handwheel you should see the sewing hook moving under the bobbin case.

If not, take it to a sewing repair person and it should cost somewhere around $100 to repair.
