A hard drive is relatively easy to install and use. Just plug it in and away you go. It is so simple that apparently you don't even need directions. This must be the reason why they didn't include any in the box.
Your hard drive, also known as a USB drive, can be plugged into any of the USB ports on your computer/laptop. The little wire with the rectangle at the end of it is called a USB cable. It will only fit into a USB port. USB ports can be located on the front, side, and back of your computer/laptop. Manufacturers suggest that you use a USB port located on the back of your computer/laptop, and avoid plugging the portable hard drive into a USB hub. This practice ensures that you are using the best connection available, and cuts down on possible interference, but can oftentimes be rather inconvenient. Plug your USB hard drive into any slot it fits into. If the drive appears to be running slowly or doesn't show up on your computer, then try moving it to a slot on the back of your computer.

After you've plugged your portable hard drive into your computer, two things will generally happen, indicating that it has been correctly plugged in. Your computer/laptop will make a beeping sound and a dialog box will appear in the lower right hand corner of your screen telling you that your computer/laptop has found new hardware.

The first time you plug your USB drive into your computer/laptop, wait a couple of minutes to let it install any drivers necessary before continuing. It will do this automatically. Once the drivers are installed, double-click your "My Computer" icon. Your portable hard drive will appear as a new drive letter. If it doesn't show up in My Computer, try plugging it into the back of your computer Read more at

The most common uses for your portable hard drive are to either transport or make backups of your documents. These uses do not require that you install any special software. You can copy your files to it just as if it were your local hard drive. You can drag and drop your documents right onto the new drive letter listed in My Computer. You can save and edit your documents directly to your USB drive from your programs and applications. Then, you can bring them with you to other locations or store them in a safe place in case your computer crashes. Read more at Never remove your USB drive from your computer while you are copying files to it. This can corrupt your data and cause you to lose your files. The safest way to remove it is to click on the "Safely Remove Hardware icon" in the lower right hand corner of your taskbar. Read more at

Will an Acomdata external hard drive (Model # HD25OUHES5-72, Serial # C1005093) work with Windows 7

Windows 7 is a pain with large external hard drives you might get messages saying the hard drive needs to be checked or formatted do you want to check the disk now or do you want to format it now.

When there is nothing wrong with it at all.

External hard drives can be used on most computers and operating systems with minimal or no requirements other than leads and drivers.

Try it and good luck.

Hope this helps

Audio service refuses to start

The obvious, is it muted? NO. Disable device in Device Manager, enable device, no change, uninstall audio device, reboot, I don't know your OS, your OS should automaticly ID the audio an add driver. If it does not go to Acer website a download audio driver for your OS. Install manually. You stated,"after installing a hard drive I had from another laptop" . The Harddrive you installed, did you format it and install into this laptop and clone the drive? I am a bit confused by the statment, "after installing a hard drive I had from another laptop"?

Turning on unit, display of "cannot start the correct hard disk was not found" I tried reseting it by holding the pwr button for ten seconds, didn't work. What can I do?

The only thing I can think of is if you know anyone else who has a ps3, try using your hard drive in their ps3 to see if it works, if not you may have to buy a new hard drive. I don't have a ps3 so I am not sure if the hard drives are removable or not, but I do have an Xbox 360, and the hard drives are removable, and are very easy to remove.

First if everything is working you do not have to do anything els, decondly .exe is just the extension you need to know the prefix (what is in front of .exe), if the manual refers to just an .exe it is refering an exemple so don't bother with it, if it works just use it...

It sure sounds like a problem with the hard drive. Acers usually don't include diagnostic tools to check it out, but that is what I would do next. If you don't know how to proceed, use a hard drive diagnostic like DFT to diagnose the hard drive.
to get the info and download the DFT program. This will work on non-Hitachi drives as well, so don't worry about what type of drive is in your Acer.
If the drive is bad, it is a fairly simple matter of installing a new hard drive and reinstalling windows onto it. It's hard to say if the data on that drive is recoverable or not.

My Toshiba L640 model encountering this problem. the time i open my computer the Toshiba logo appears and the F2 to utility system and F12 for the boot if you will allow the computer to proceed without...

That means the hard drive has failed. You'll likely need a new hard drive. Go into the utility system using F2 and see if it still sees the hard drive. If it does, and you don't hear something going "click, click, click" or "kchunk, kchunk, kchunk", there's hope. If you don't hear those noises, and can borrow a Windows disk to boot from, you might be able to correct the issue running the check disk utility.

I would recommend you turn it over to someone that really knows what they're doing.

Every time I plug in my WD Passport, it pops up tons of messages that ask me "Do you want to format G:\?" I tried formatting it twice, it says "Finished" and when I unplug the drive and...

Odd. Try this:
Connect the drive, don't bother formatting. Right click on My Computer (or just Computer from the Start Menu) and select manage. Click on Storage, Disk Management.
Look for the WD drive Right click on any existing partitions/volumes on that drive and delete them. Right click again and select Create partition (something like that, I don't have a drive to play with in front of me). Accept all the defaults but don't select quick format. Let it do a full format!
If, after all that, you still get that error, it might be the drive failing and you'll want to contact WD for a replacement if it's under warranty. If not, you can get another 250+G drive and swap it out yourself. :)
