Hi, I have a peavey special - avatar6.jpgbudfaulkner7

The 130 special was released as a Combo Amp, though I have seen quite a few taken out of the original cabinet and used in a rack system. Mine had a single 12" Scorpion speaker, I think a revised model came out in 86 (in Canada at least) that had twin 10" black widows.

Peavey usually make amps used for live performance and stuff so the connections for the input and output are diffrent from what you find in household amplifiers.

I would think anything decent would work just fine. Records do not have the Dynamic range CD's do. Also most units just use a simple RC circut to do the RIAA comp.

My Peavey PV-118 18" subwoofer

Peavey uses a protection network and sometimes it gets blown when too much power is sent to the speaker. The speaker may be blown however. Peak power for this is 800 Watts and 400 Program... That is NOT RMS power. Make sure your amp is no bigger than 300 Watts RMS driving this. If you are REAL lucky, maybe a lead has fallen off the speaker... Open the unit inspect and test the components.

The power of the Peavey Escort 3000 Portable PA Sound System went off while in use, and since then power is not showing any more

A failure probably occured in one of the power amps and has blown the fuse or worse. DO NOT replace the fuse and try to operate it as further damage may occur. Take it in for repair.

I have a Crate PA-8 4 ohm 150 watt PA head that I run to four Peavy 10" PA speakers (two per side in series). It was very good, clean sound, but the speakers were cheap and may have been pushed too hard -...

150 watts should be easily handled by four Peavey speakers in the connection you described.. If the Peavey's are 8 ohms, then your total load was 8 ohms for the series/parallel arrangement which is well within the 2 ohm drive capability of the Crate according to specs.

I question if you really mean the speakers were in series? This requires a special cable to do this. Now if you mean they were "daisy chained" like the amp went to one speaker and another cable connected that speaker to another, then you REALLY had ALL speakers in parallel electrically which would be at the 2 ohm low limit of the amp... In either case, with only 1/4 of the 150 Watts to each, the speakers should NOT have been damaged. The amp MAY have been damaged. Try each speaker individually at a REASONABLE level to test.

If you plug into the effects loop out jack,OFTEN the connection to the internal power amp is broken so you might have to arrange a special cable as a wye to go back into the power amp as well as your external amp. In any case pwere ALL interconnected amps, etc from the same power source/receptacle for system safety.

Try http://www.peavey.com/support/contactinfo/ You may be able to get one from them. When I was doing repairs they would only release schematics to Peavey dealers but you can always ask.

WEAK SOUND WHEN CONNECTED TO DURABRAND AMP

The electrical output from a turntable actually comes from the cartridge on the tone arm. Specifically, it's generated by an interaction between a magnet and a coil inside the cartridge. They come in two types, MC ("moving coil") and MM ("moving magnet") according to which of the two elements moves and which is fixed. MM cartridges produce more current but MC cartridges usually sound better. No matter which you have though, the total output is too low for the regular line inputs on amplifiers. Ten or twenty years ago, amps has special "phono" inputs. This would have a special pre-amplifier in it that would amplify the cartridge's singal to a level suitable for the rest of the amp. Most amps having a phono input only deal with MM cartridges, which have a higher signal.

I use an MC cartridge with an amp that doesn't have a phono input at all; therefore I needed to buy a special external phono pre-amp. I bought a Musical Fidelity X-LPS. But cheaper pre-amps do exist.
