Visit the control panel at http://192.168.0.1/
On the left, click on "Wireless Settings"
You should be able to either set or view the pass phrase from here. You will need to connect to the router via ethernet to get into the admin panel until you have the pass phrase.

Open a new internet window and go to "192.168.0.1" without the quotes You should be prompted for a username and password.

  • Username = admin
  • Password = password
    • For older devices, password = 1234
If this does not work, you should reset the router to factory settings by pushing a pin in the button located in the back of the router.

Main router is a dlink, and it's connected to a netgear router as a slave, and i want to use the netgear router for wireless within the house

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = passwordYou can now change the default admin password and configurethe wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I have bought this equipment, and i wish to make a secure connection and add other laptops and computers. but everytime i do so, i loose the connection, i wish to use the wi-fi protected set up

If you want to use secure wireless connection just use WEP or WPA security encription for wireless. Protected set up does not do this. This is for in house laptop connections. In the wireless tap of your netgear choose manual set up or wireless security option and then choose WEP or WPA option. You will have to make a key and put this key in to every wireless device in house. Hope this helps.

This is a link to manual for your router.

I need the security key to my existing wireless netgear router.

The Security Key is normally used for Wireless routers to protect your connection from any unauthorized use. As you have said that you do not have the Security key for your router with you, the best way to connect your ACER laptop to the Netgear router is by asking your Wireless service provider to reset the security key & freshly reentering the same on both of your HP & ACER laptops.

Connecting laptop to a friend's netgear

You can have your friend log into the router with their laptop and check the setting in the router. Of course, your friend will need to remember what his password is for the router as well. If he doesnt remember that, then the only solution is to reset the router to the default.

Change router locaation

do factory reset of configuration settings then log in with the routers default credentials. then change settings to your liking with one exception: DO NOT USE WEP!!!!! At a minimum use WPA 1 personal (with MAC filtering if you know how.) WEP can be hacked in less than 5 minutes.

Security problems

You are looking for the WEP key that is configured on your router. Use your PC that's connected via ethernet, go to the config web page for the router and somewhere on the wireless security settings you will find the WEP key that was configured for your wireless network.
