The vacuum keeps falling over and won't stand upright. The vacuum won't **** from the bottom, only from the hose in the handle.

My dye on will not stand upright and all suction is out of top handle instead at bottom

The system is supposed to suck from the handle instead of the bottom when it's fully upright. If it's still doing that when the handle is reclined well away from upright, then the sensor for upright may be broken or jammed. My precise knowledge fades at that point, but I'll see if there's more detail in the manual.

Kirby heritage 2 wont stand upright keeps falling over

Is your bag too full? the added weight will tip over your vacuum, especially if you're using the attachment hose. Check the bag. If it's over the "indicator line", then change it. See if that helps.

My Oreck Upright will not stay upright! The handle falls over everytime I leave it stand on its own.

What you are in need of is what they call a detent. There is a possibility that is has broken off from the housing which means that the only way to repair it properly is to replace the entire housing. It may have just had the screw come loose and has fallen off and just needs to be re-attached and possibly needs a larger screw if the hole is stripped. You will need to take the bottom plate off and remove the screws holding the motor and the right angled air tube and then remove both of those so that you can see where the detent is supposed to be located. When removing the motor, be sure you mark where the wires are attached on the motor so that you wire it back up properly. Hope this helps!

I got my mother a Dyson vacuum to replace her old hoover...she's used a few (3) times. I was at her house yesterday and attempted to use it to clean up some crumbs. She told me the last time she tried...

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear *********** is having difficulties with her DC28. The cleaner should recline easily into the vacuuming position when one foot is placed on the cleaner head, and the handle is lowered. If it's not doing this, check the clear U-bend at the rear of the machine for obstructions. For guidance on doing this, please see the link to our Support page below:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1236&product=DC28-ANIMAL

After removing any blockages from the U-bend, stand the cleaner upright, and try reclining it again. It might be worth using a little more force than usual, in case the upright lock mechanism has jammed. If this doesn't help, or if you're reluctant to try this, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Dyson Slim - suction is fine on bottom, but pipe has no suction at all. No blockage. When I remove pipe from the back at the bottom, I can see round white plastic thing in the opening. Right before it...

There is a diverter valve on those that changes suction from the hose to the floor when you pull the handle back. It usually makes the machine bind and not stand up. ( exactly what you are describing ) You need to take it to your local vac shop and they can fix it for you. The part that fell out was the retaining disc and a screw went in it to hold the diverter valve spring in place. Doubful if you can repair this on your own. It will not make since how it should go back if you've never seen it before.

Can't get it to ****!!!

Worked on one with your same problem of poor suction and won't stand up. On the left side of the handle, near the bottom, the port cover isn't on correctly. Take it off, put the handle in the upright position then reinstall the cover.
