Just moved into a house that came with a relatively new GE Profile front load washer. The machine generates a persistent foul odor. i've tried bleach and the Affresh brand washer treatment with no luck. It seems like there is stagnant water somewhere creating the smell. What can I do to get rid of this smell? We've tried leaving the door open as much as possible to let it dry out.

Run a small load and put an entire small box of Baking Soda in the water and let it run through with just water and Baking Soda .. nothing else, this will start to kill the odor. Bleach will disinfect it but not get rid of the humid damp smell, like those in the hotels and motels in humid beach towns... Air is essential for high quality air in the home. If you have your doors and windows always shut in your laundry room, leave them open at least 2 times a day for the damp smell escape. The only reason front loads (which I have as well) generate smell is leaving wet laundry in them. To avoid it,
1)when laundry is done, put all the wet clothes to the dryer. Wipe the glass with a rag, and inside as well. This helps with hard water plugging the holes inside where water gets in the machine as well.
2) Also do not leave the door closed always. Keep it open until the inside dries, or do not keep it closed at all times. If you are living in a humid area, the excess water won't evaporate quickly and will make a damp almost a pre-mold smell.
3) For immediate result, run the machine in its shortest cycle or even rinse cycle with a little bit of fabric softner. Follow directions #1 and #2. It will get rid of it right away.

Odor coming from inside washer

There is a tub beyond the tub you see. Run a load of water with chlorine bleach. This will kill the mold & mildew spores that are causing the odors. ****Do NOT add clothing to this washload****

If possible, keep the door open when not in use. This will allow the inside to dry and mold & mildew cannot grow.

Last few weeks there is a foul odor coming from the washer

How old of a unit? The new high energy effeciency washers are known for their "odors" due to the fact they dont drain out all water and it can mildew inside. Some solutions...leave door ajar after wash cycles , water will evaporate, there is products you can add every so many loads, one product being "affresh" ,,,some other people will run strong bleach load every so many loads it will kill mildew. These washeres have been out for years in Europe and they have same problems, its just inherent with product

ODOR IN WASHER

Are you wiping the glass and the water seal (you have to peel it back to get at the pooled water) each and every load? We used to have a top-load and never had to do this before, but if you dry it every time it won't mildew.

If you weren't you will have to wash the rubber gasket with vinegar or some other solvent... Check your owner's guide.

Ginding noise during agitation

From the GE site.....

Front load washers and some compact model washers do not come with a shipping rod. According to the Installation Instructions for these machines there are 4 bolts, 4 yellow plastic spacers, and 4 metal "p" clamps that need to be saved and reinstalled before moving the washer to prevent any damage to the machine.

Foul water odor after wash

There is always a littlee water left in the sump of a washer after it is emptied. If the washer sits unused for as little as 2 or 3 days it can have that odor. One thing that I do is add about 1/4 cup of ammonia after the washer is full of water. DO NOT USE AMMONIA IF YOU USE BLEACH IN THE SAME WASH!!! IT WILL CAUSE CLORINE GAS TO BE RELEASED!! If bleach was used in the previous cycle it will be ok.
