Rainbow e2 type 12 120v , accidentally plugged into 220v, would barely power up, possibly controller board defective?

probably need both as the extra 100 volts would burn the board and the motor
it is never advisable to buy electric equipment from another country because of the voltage differences but even then the plugs are made different so that the cord will not plug directly into the power outlet.

What is the difference between a sewing machine and a serger?

Well..... A serger (or overlock) sews a different, and usually more complex stitch. Where a sewing machine usually only uses two threads to make the stitch, a serger can use two, three, four or even five threads and will sew around the edges of the work piece, as well as trimming the edge of the work just ahead of the sewing area, or as you feed the work in, the trimming takes place first. Sergers also make a stronger seam, attributable to more thread / stitching in the seam. Sergers are versatile and quick, but one drawback is the fact that sergers make a chain stitch instead of a lock stitch, like a machine with a bobbin, and lock stitches can be pulled out, like the stitching that used to close dog food bags and bags of charcoal. A lock stitch is just what it sounds like, it can't be pulled out. You only get a lock stitch with a machine that uses a bobbin, and sergers don't use bobbins. That fact makes serging desirable for the speed of production. Changing bobbins takes up a lot of time, even if you are using pre-wounds. Hope this helps!

Where can I download a manual free for my serger tonight. 14SH 654 model I need to make something tomorrow and have misplaced my manual

The Singer support site has manuals for download or purchase. Start here: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html and enter the model number then click Search. Then click on the Free Download button for your machine. There are two different machines with the 14SH654 model number listed; one is an UltraLock and the other is a Finishing Touch sewing machine.

I hope this helps.

Kenmore whispertone 100 model 116. powerhead no

  • The motor / cord compartment cover must be removed to access the cord reel. There are four screws that hold the cover to the chassis. Two of the screws are found under the cord-retractor-foot-pedal on the top back of the canister. To access these screws the pedal must be removed. To do this, press the pedal down and look (from the top) for the four plastic clips that attach/hold the pedal hinges to the cover. There are two at the end corners and two in the middle. Using a long, thin flat-head screw driver (or similar instrument) press each clip to unhook/popout the hinges. Note: the foot pedal spring will also come out when the pedal is removed.

The other two screws are found under the curved hinges of the vaccum bag compartment cover. To access these, lift the cover as if accessing the vacuum bag. Keep pulling the cover back until the hinges release from the motor cover. Don't worry, it is disigned to do this and will not break but it may require a little force. A long phillip-head screw driver will be needed to access and remove each screw

Won't start

Hello rperlin. Your AC cord most likely has a broken wire in it. Please be careful is this action I suggest and DON'T touch a bare wire. Plug unit in, turn power on, now sowly flex the AC cord close to the plug, no sparks or motor starts, flex the cord near the vacuum, ext. If you get an action you have found the location of your broken wire. Replacing it will be a chore. Make notes on wire color and witch one went where. A factory replacement may be costly, Visit your local hardware store & ask for help in electrical dept. Electrical lesson#2. Aquire a DVM or more commonly VOM(meter) & check for ohms in the AC cord. IF you elminate the cord HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM. Your switch, motor brushes, or control switches internal are the problem. Good luck.

Hi, I have replaced the electric cord on Electrolux Lux Royal vacuum, but the rewind that retracts the cord does not pull it in. The coil spring looks ok but it will not pull the cord back in, any suggestions please.
Thanks Dave Ryder

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
The question I have is it the Electrolux or the Royal cordwinder, if the cordwinder is sprung you may have to get a new one or a good used one, it’s been a while since I have done a cordwinder and I have seen it done, but I know when you remove the cordwinder you need to lock in the spring so that it does not loose it tension and re-coil ability. You may want to ask your local vac dealer to see if you need to repair or replace. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
