Question about Dell OptiPlex GX260 PC Desktop

Can NOT Connect to the Internet...

Hey people. I'm here with a problem connecting to the internet on my other computer. I know it's the computer's problem, because this one works fine. Let me give you the details.

When I use an Ethernet cable from my modem to this computer, it works fine. However, if I do the same to my other computer, no packets are ever received, the IP Address is wrong, etc... I've also tried wireless internet connections (Don't wanna get into that) and that gave me the same problem. I'm manually set the stuff, as in IP, default Gateway, etc... to match this computer's when it's connected directly to the modem. However, it sends a few packets, receives them, and then stops. It will send more, and receive none. I've tried CMD's "ipconfig /release & renew" like suggested, and that didn't help. I've tried pretty much everything I could find. I just installed the drivers for the network adapter (Ethernet card...) yesterday.

On the back of the computer, the Ethernet lights are Orange (solid) and yellow-green (flashing). From what I heard, solid orange is a good thing. Plus my speed is 100MB/s, so...

    So basically reconnect, manually put everything in, and then ping the address? Also I don't know how to check the connection with a domain.

Use correct ip address and DNS address and the n check the connection with domain and then connect it to internet. use ping with ip address to check the modem performance.

Its trying to connect your phone as a modem, which is pretty much useless now unless you have a dial-up internet account. If you want to use you phones 3G or 4G connection, you should connect you phone via WIFI to you computer and use the phones software to share your internet connection to WIFI.

Hey. This is a common question for people who own a Wii since it doesn't have a built in ethernet port to connect to through your router or modem.
There are two possible options for you to connect your Wii to the internet:
1.] You can buy a $10 USB adapter here that will allow you to connect it just like you would any other computer in your home:
2.] You can use its built-in WiFi card to connect to wireless internet in your home. If you don't have a wireless router or wireless access points then this probably is not a viable option.

Make sure the cat5 cable coming from the modem is going to the computer and bypass the router for now.

If the computer is able to connect to the internet then you know its a configuration issue with the router. If it still can't connect to the internet then you know its an issue with the computer, might be a driver issue with the computer at that point.

Call your Internet service provider and have them tell you the steps on how to configure your router to work with there internet service.

with acers it's usually alt + F10 as soon as you switch the machine on, acer provide the recovery on a hidden partition on the hard drive
