Hey people. I'm here with a problem connecting to the internet on my other computer. I know it's the computer's problem, because this one works fine. Let me give you the details.
When I use an Ethernet cable from my modem to this computer, it works fine. However, if I do the same to my other computer, no packets are ever received, the IP Address is wrong, etc... I've also tried wireless internet connections (Don't wanna get into that) and that gave me the same problem. I'm manually set the stuff, as in IP, default Gateway, etc... to match this computer's when it's connected directly to the modem. However, it sends a few packets, receives them, and then stops. It will send more, and receive none. I've tried CMD's "ipconfig /release & renew" like suggested, and that didn't help. I've tried pretty much everything I could find. I just installed the drivers for the network adapter (Ethernet card...) yesterday.
On the back of the computer, the Ethernet lights are Orange (solid) and yellow-green (flashing). From what I heard, solid orange is a good thing. Plus my speed is 100MB/s, so...
If I don't manually set the IP settings, it can't get an IP. It always returns a 169.254.*.* IP, which isn't right. And it can't get a default gateway, and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 (Instead of 255.255.255.0).
Thanks for your help. This problem has been killing me!
PS: I couldn't find any help online. None of the solutions helped.

Make sure the cat5 cable coming from the modem is going to the computer and bypass the router for now.
If the computer is able to connect to the internet then you know its a configuration issue with the router. If it still can't connect to the internet then you know its an issue with the computer, might be a driver issue with the computer at that point.
Call your Internet service provider and have them tell you the steps on how to configure your router to work with there internet service.
Go into network set up
a shared Internet connection using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)
You can use Internet
Connection Sharing (ICS) to share an Internet connection among two or more
computers on a network. First, you need one computer, called the host computer, that is connected to the Internet and that
has a separate connection to the other computers on your network. You enable ICS
on the Internet connection. The other computers on your network then connect to
the host computer, and from there to the Internet through the host computer's
shared Internet connection.
If your computer is connected to a network, network policy
settings might prevent you from completing these steps.
On the host computer (the computer whose Internet connection you
plan to share):
Sometimes this is not your fault or problem (other than it happens to you) contact you ISP (internet SERVICE provider) Like Verizon, Comcast...whom ever, let the do a line test and tell them to check the settings on your computer. They can take over your computer and if there is an errant setting they will find it in just a few seconds. Hey you are paying for their service and they are usually happy to provide it to you. Good luck my friend...
hey, first go to a internet browsing center or use any of your friend computer to download your laptop drivers. here is the link to download all the drivers. just click on the following link to visit the download page. after you download all the drivers, install those drivers on your laptop.
OPEN YOUR INTERNET PAGE AT THE TOP TOOLS THEN CONNECTIONS
CLICK LAN SETTINGS make sure you have it checked to automatically detect settings
then click setup follow instructions
If you have the internet icon on your taskbar right click then click wireless connections see if any show if so highlight and click connect
if none show on left side of same page click refresh network list you may need to do this a few times then when you see a connection highlight click connect
let me know if these solutions help

What sort of internet(dial-up, adsl,) modem, Operating system etc.
How did you "clear everything off" ?
Some bugs are designed to use your internet, so it is not uncommon that you need to make a new connection after virus removal.
