Question about Refrigerators

2 Answers

Please send to saide386 Dear Mr. salde386 Thank you for your solution to the defrost problem with my GE TFH24PR (detailed model tag is missing) refrigerator. I bought the heater assembly and installed it with no problem. I also need help with the icemaker which has stopped making ice. The water outlet on the outside door of the freezer works fine, and so does the ice door flipper mechanism and the motor that rotates the ice pushout rod. However, even when the ice bucket-filled-up automatic shutoff lever is lowered onto an empty ice bucket, no water flows out into the ice cube tray and no sounds are heard. Is there a separate switch to enable this function? What do you suggest? Thanks. Bob Trippi

How can I test the ice cube valve for passing water?

  • Robert May 31, 2011

    Please send to salde386 ONLY:

Thank you for your previous help with the defroster on my GE TFH24PR refrigerator, which worked out fine.

Another question: how can I test the icemaker water solenoid valve from the front of the unit. Everything else works fine, including cold water coming from the outlet on the door and the ice pusher motor.

However, lowering the icemaker bail does not let water into the ice cube tray, or make any noise at all for that matter.

I understand that after removing its front plastic cover, shorting a pair of test points (L-V?) near the timing gears on the front of the icemaker should temporarily actuate the solenoid valve, but I do not see the test points shown in the picture on youtube.

I can send you a photo of mine

    Thank you.

Hello Bob,
the icemaker starts making ice when the unit reaches 32 degrees if you have no water flowing to the ice maker tray you would then pull the unit out and go around to the rear of the machine and assure that you have power to the solenoids on the water inlet valve if you do shut off the water supply and remove the lines and check for any type of a clog in the inlet valve screens if there is no clog this is a video on the refrigerator water vale test http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlYCJr9dc3E and would also tell you if your icemaker is working properly if you have any further questions message me back I await your reply Thanks Rick
p.s if you have no blockage at the screens and you have power to the solenoids replace the valve

you can always try turning off the water and unscrewing the hoses that go to the valve and then either plugging in the wire like in the video which would make water come through the line or you can also take the female end of an extension cord and cut it off and add two electical connectors this is knows as a powered jumper wire or suicide wire you would then unplug the solenoids and touch to one side of the solenoid briefly if the valve did work then when power was applied to the top of the valve you would have water coming out remember to turn back on the water to perform this test definetly sounds like you might have a bad valve there Message me back if you have any further questions I await your reply Thanks Rick

unplug it and get your hair dryer remove the panel again and blow dry the entire thing untill all is melted be carefull not to over do ad not to put dryer in the freezer stand back where the water will not splash on the dryer after leave it off for 1 hour than turn back on and put setting on number 3 for 2 to 3 hours than adjust to your normal setting not higher than 5 or it will repeat problem. It is getting very well cool causing to over cool to fast.

Need doors for GE profile TFH24PR refrigerator

Complete doors can usually be purchased from GE themselves for models which had problems with sweating on the exterior. Other models I'm not sure it's possible to get.
