Hi,
It would be against the law to give you a product key for Microsoft Office products.
You can, however get a free office suite from either libreoffice or openoffice.
You may download these free and use them to your heart's content perfectly legally. These programs also read and write Microsoft Office format files.

Hello earrye,

Sorry but Fixya doesn't allow any illegal activity. But what I can do is advice you to download a FREE compatible program instead that works like MS Office. It can create/open/edit MS office files. It is FREE and LEGAL. Here is the link:

My condolences. Someone probably stole your licence key :( Your only option is to purchase office professional online or in-store. No other legal way around this. If your really desperate give microsoft support a call, they might be able to help

Microsoft office 7 confirmation

It is likely that the version of Office that came with your PC is a trial version. This would work for a limited period, following which you would have to purchase a licence to continue using it. This is common practice with new PCs.

Finding and using a procuct key from the internet is not valid and, as you have discovered, will probably not work. Even if it had worked you would be breaking copyright law as the licence has to be purchased from Microsoft.

You can remove the Office suite using 'Add or Remove Programs' in Control Panel. The rest of your software should work OK.

If you need to use Office programs you should either purchase a legal copy or use the OpenSource equivalent, which is fully compatible and free.

You can download OpenOffice here:

Just bought this brand spankin' new laptop and it has Vista on it... then the MS Office Home/Student ASK ME ABOUT PRODUCT KEY FOR STUDENT AND MAKE ME CONFUSED

Normally when you buy a laptop, it comes with Office installed, but it is only a trial version (same functionality that you get when you buy the perpetual versions, valid normally for 60 days), after, it will keep you asking to enter the Product Key.

Did you pay for an Office license when you bought your laptop? If it’s the case, the seller has to give you a licence certificate (with a product key), or the installation CD with the product key.

If you didn’t buy a licence, you need to buy one in order to continue the utilisation of the software.

If you don't want to pay for a license, you can use OpenOffice, the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers.

Great software, same functionalities as Microsoft Office, easy to use, and it's free:

Preinstalled Office home and Student 2007 backup copy

When you purchased your computer, the vendor-supplied "System Restore" set of CD-ROMs were used to install both the Windows operating system and a selected set of additional software, which includes that version of Microsoft Office. So, those disks are your backup.

Thus, taking a different set of Microsoft Office CD-ROMs, such as one purchased from a retail outlet, and trying to use the listed product-key with that "retail" set of CD-ROM disks is *NOT* allowed by Microsoft, as you have discovered.

call microsoft 800 #. they will ask you to describe the cd and read some numbers off the inner ring of the cd or something like that. if it a legal cd they should be able to get you a new key. other than that you will have to purchase another copy

If I understand your problem...
You do not have the product key?
Or, are you having problems installing the product key?
If you have a bootleg copy of the software, there is nothing that can be done for you.

You must not have the program installed on other computers.
You must purchase an original Microsoft CD.
No product key is required for the trial period, unless that has changed in Office 2007.
Did you purchase a new computer with office 2007 installed already?
..............
-- If you do have a legal version...
First check and see if your "Caps Lock" is on?
Be absolutely sure that you are entering the registration code EXACTLY as printed, Use CAPITAL LETTERS as printed, and lower case letters as required.
If it still won't work....
Call Microsoft and explain the situation, have a magnifying glass handy to read the tiny engraved lettering in the center of the CD disk.
If you have some kind of sales receipt, or other "Proof of Purchase" have it handy too.
They can create a new product key for you.
This method will only work if you have a legal copy of the program.
