Hold the tab on the top for a few seconds in order to reset the Kindle. It should restart it and allow you to access everything again.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I tapped the page to continue reading and a screen popped up explaining how to highlight a sentence; the Kindle froze, charged it for 2 days and still won't work.

Kindle books are stored in the amazon cloud which you can access on amazons website, if all your books are still in the cloud you can put them on the new kindle.

I have also had this happen with mine a few times. It always seems to resolve itself after charging.

Good Luck.

Press and hold the power button for twenty seconds, ignoring the "Do you want to shut down your Kindle?" question until it turns off. Release the power button, then press and hold it again for a second or so until it starts rebooting.

My New Amazon kindle 3g just froze and I don't know how to take off the back cover what do i do?

Do not remove the back cover, there are no user serviceable parts inside. Instead:
  • Make sure the Kindle's battery is charged. Connect to a PC using the supplied USB cable until the power LED changes colour from amber to green.
  • Slide and hold the power button until after the power LED blinks three times. If the screen now is blank, repeat the procedure
If the Kindle still does not come back to life, contact Kindle Support.

Hello.

Reset your Kindle.

There's a little hole inside the battery cover area. Put in a pin or paperclip end and press. The Kindle should unlock.

Hope this helps.

Non responsive (battery is fully charged). Screen has frozen up.

There is a reset button at the bottom (insert paper clip in pinhole). If all attempts trying to unfreeze it fail, you may have a logic board issue. Are you sure the Kindle powers up? Try to power up your Kindle with a different battery. If that fails, you can get the part at Kindle Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to open a kindle and install parts at Kindle Repair Guide.
