Hi there marinetek01

sounds like the governor is hanging up or inoperative or been adjusted wrong or the worst case has flown apart in the crankcase

make sure all links and springs are in the correct place and are free to move

start engine ( you will have to hold the throttle shaft at the top of the carb or the link rod that links the governor to carb ) at a low rev point if you do not feel any closing force on the lever and rod thats trying to close the throttle - the govenor is not working - try adjusting 1st and retry
if still no joy it may have flown apart in the crankcase

but check that the throttle butterfly has not jammed in the carb venturi bore 1st

can you let me know model and type and spec numbers from engine
and i will try help further , because have seen this once before on a 16 hp b/s ohv vangaurd
it turned out to be the link on the balancer shaft broken
this engine when started went straight to full throttle

let me know

cheers pauly46

Settings for mixture screws

Most Chain Saw Engines Have Three Carburetor Adjusting Screws:
1. Idle Speed/Throttle Stop - This is the adjustment that controls how much the throttle valve (butterfly) stays open when the throttle trigger is released. If this adjustment is set too low, the engine will die when the throttle trigger is released. The throttle valve (butterfly) simply cuts off the supply of combustible air/fuel and the engine stops. If this adjustment is set too high, the high idle speed will cause the centrifugal clutch to engage and the chain will run. This is a dangerous condition and should never be allowed.
2. Low Speed Fuel Adjustment (marked L on carb, this is the low speed jet)- This is the adjustment that controls the proportion of fuel in the combustible air/fuel mixture at idle speed. An adjustment that is set too rich will cause the engine to load up and die at idle speed. A mixture that is too lean will starve the engine and cause it to race or surge. An extremely lean adjustment will cause the engine to die, too.
3. High Speed Fuel Adjustment (marked H on carb, this is the high speed jet) - This is the adjustment that controls the proportion of fuel in the combustible air/fuel mixture at cutting speed. It would not be accurate to say that this is the most important setting, because all of these adjustments need to be accurate for a saw to perform its best, but this is the adjustment that determines how the saw runs in the cut. An adjustment that is set too rich will not allow the saw to reach the RPM level necessary to build maximum power. Throttle response may also be sluggish and the engine would smoke and perform poorly. A mixture that is too lean will allow the engine to reach an RPM level where bearing failure and cylinder seizure are likely. It will also lack power in the cut and tend to run very hot.
The preceding information briefly explains rich and lean running conditions. It also identifies the three adjustment screws and their function. It should be noted that some chain saws lack the high speed adjustment needle. These saws have what is called a "fixed jet" which is set from the factory. "Fixed jet" carburetors are used to prohibit the saw operator from setting the adjustment too lean and damaging the saw. Unfortunately, they also often prohibit the saw from achieving maximum performance.

What the proper carb settings for husqvarana 51

The initial fuel mixture settings are 1-1/2 turns from seated on each.
  1. Set at best mixture after running,
  2. Set Idle speed at 2500 rpm
  3. Then for best at full throttle and not exceed 12500 rpm.
  4. If the engine want to go above 12500 rpm enrich the high mixture a little to limit the speed.

Volvo v40 2000nx reg 1.8 NON gdi engine constant high rpm can having no thermostat cause constant high rpm or can a briken lambda sensor cause high rpm cleaned all throttle body cleaned idle valve checked...

Yes, having no thermostat can cause the car to run fast as it will still be set in it's "warm up" mode and will be injecting a richer mixture of fuel/air into the cylinders. There may be an additional cold start injector that just works while the engine is cold. You will probably use more fuel like this. It's not a great idea to run with no thermostat anyway because you get uneven hot and cold spots around the engine which is bad for it. Cheers

I have a 18HP B&S Vangaurd Vertical shaft on a scag walkbehind motor runs good untill I engage the blades then it seems to draw down to about half throttle until I disengage the blades then the motor...

Check the govenor spring to see that it is not stretched out or popped off...there should be a colored spring on the throttle plate where the throttle lever connects to...also, there are several holes in the plate where the spring attaches...these hole will set the sensitivity of the govenor...you may need to make it more sensitive to hold the engine speed high when engaging the blades

18hp B&S wont slow down no matter where

It's one of two things. Most likely, the screw(s) have come out of the butterfly valve on the throttle shaft and letting it run wide open. The second thing is that the governor gear inside the engine broke. Unless you a pretty good mechanic, I'd recommend taking it to a shop. If it is just the butterfly in the carb, you still have to deal with...where did the screws go? They may have passed through the intake and exhaust valves or they may be stuck in one of the valve seats or embedded in the piston. Like I said, better take it to a trusted shop, if there is such a thing, unless you live close to me. lol.

96 f-150 idles really high

I just solved this problem on my truck after fighting with it for 2 yrs. Mine is the 5.0 though, check your PVC valve and replace if it is bad. After that Take off your IAC and spray down with carb or brake cleaner and scrape all the carbon build up out of it and work the spring inside. you gotta really clean it out though! After that if it's opening and closing easily put it back together and it should work! you might have to adjust the idle a bit to get it all the way. But after doing this my truck went from a 2000 rpm idle down to about a 700! I hope this helps you!!
