Question about Hayward H Series Induced Draft Abg 100,000 Heater

1 Answer

When I turned on my Hayward H100id heater for the first time this year I noticed that the motor on the combustion blower was not turning. It tried, but seemed stuck, but I was able to turn it by hand. So I removed the blower from the heater and sprayed some wd40 onto the shaft (underside and above). From that point it seemed to spin freely so I put it all back together, and no the heater is working. BUT, it sounds like a jet engine now. It is so loud that I can't stand to leave it running. Did I ruin it by using wd40?

Try using some regular oil. wd40 is not an oil per say. it doesnt lubricate things for long

SOURCE: hayward h100ID ignitor not starting

There are many different things it could be with the fan comming on that means the heater is trying to fire. Make sure gas supply is on first of all. Depending on the gas line run you may have to try several times of turning on and off the heater to reprome the line. If no luck with that the next step is the igniter follow the small tube comming off the gas valve and folliw it to the burner tray try poking a small peice of wire through it from a wire brush it probally is plugged. Heater should fire after that.

SOURCE: Pool Heater. Hayward H100ID Starts fine

It sounds like your pool heater is not firing. I would check several things: the burner might be blocked and clogged, the gas valve might need to be replaced, the direct spark module might be malfunctioning, or the combustion blower might be cleaned. One of these is probably the issue. A service man can repair all of these problems.

Hayward H100ID wont heat water

If the heater is operational, working and the top of the heater is hot, and you do hear the combustion of the gas, see flames in the burner tray area...

.... then your heater is heating the water!

If there are flames in the heater, the heater is normally doing its job. Most people are not aware of the time it takes to see a "Temperature Rise". The average temperature rise is dependent on your heater size, the ambient temperature of the time of day you would like to use your heater, the wind/breeze factor as it goes over your pool surface. Is the pool waters surface covered? etc. All of this is a factor on how quick the temperature will rise. It is possible that you will not feel warm water coming from a return fitting.

Another common mistake some pool owners make is the system is on a timer. And the desire to start the initial warming of the water starts with the flick of the heater switch and then a few hours later the pump turns off and along with it, the heater. The heater will only work, if the pump is on and circulating the water! No circulation, no heat! So if you have a timer, remove the "Off" timer pins and allow the heater to work.

Hayward heater not working

You'll never get enough gas from a 20 pound tank. Even 100# tanks struggle to evaporate enough gas to keep up with that heater.

In the mean time, what is the output pressure on your regulator?

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the solder connections on the control module. The connector that is soldered to this board (comes from the gas valve) needed to be re-soldered.
