Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have Whirlpool frig. When it goes into defrost water drip inside the frig and collects at the bottom. The water appears to be coming into the frig through a channell in the center back of the freezer which drops down into the refrig. At the top of the channel is the freezer fan. The frig is over 6 years. I am not sure of the model or the size. Thank you Patrick

Water collecting under bottom draws inside frig

Hello,

That water is very likely dripping from the freezer because the drain for the defrost is blocked,so instead of the water draining its dripping through the vents down under the crispers. This tip i wrote will help ya to clear that drain to keep the water from dripping through the vents.

Hotpoint model #ctxy14epjrwh slow water drip from inside of the refrigerator. inside the top of the frig, center, there are several components that appear to come down from the freezer. the lowest one...

That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the centeroldtech2332_52.jpg

Water is dripping inside refridgerator coming from inside back center. Why? Sometimes it drips, sometimes it runs and sometimes it's fine.

Is water connected to this unit for the ice maker? If not than this would be the water that comes off the refrigeration coils as the unit defrosts. The water should be collected by a shallow plastic collector, routed to a drain tube, and empties to a pan under the frig where the water will evaporate quickly. Check drain collector for damage and drain hose for blockage.

Funky smell coming from bottom of frig when running

Is it a musty smell or that of something / (rodent) decomposing? If you only smell it when it is running then look for BLACK gunk that will probably appear almost like a paste. Even things like cat or dog hair will collect in damp areas. There should be a white plastic drip pan under your unit. Look for the freezer white plastic drain hose on the rear bottom of your unit on the freezer side and follow that hose to the drip pan. It catches water every time the unit defrosts which is 3 - 4 times a day depending on which defrost timer your unit has.

Usually there is a build up in the drip pan that gets mucky and then stinks like mold. It will of course need cleaned.

Also look at the fan area for the coils. Sometimes there are unwanterd home critters that attempt to get through the running fan blades and end dead up inside the cooling coil metal radiator area.

We have a refrigerator model ET18NKXFW03 that drips water from the ceiling of the frig. We put a pan to collect the water but several times a week a stream of water leaks as well. It seems to happen more...

You will need to remove the food from the freezer and remove the ice maker if so equipped . Remove the 2 screws from the bottom freezer panel ( you will probably see a layer of ice here ) , and the 2 screws holding the inside rear freezer panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the center , below the coils , defrosting , until you see a drain hole . You want to defrost this hole ( hot water helps ) until water starts to flow down . Use a small hose inserted into the drain hole and blow thru it , to remove any unseen debris , built up inside the drain line . Reassemble the freezer .

STANDING WATER ON TOP SHELF

If the freezer is on top then empty out the freezer and remove the bottom and back liner of the freezer compartment usually phillips screws. In the back you will see the freezer coils along with a defrost element. Below these two items u will see a drip tray that collects water from the coils on defrost cycle, in the center of the pan will be a drain hole that connects to a hose that leads to a pan under the refrigerator.Normally the water is collected there and evaporated. The hole in the tray in the freezer is clogged. Thaw it and clean it until you can pour water in it and it goes to the pan down below. please rate me

Water dripping from somewhere inside the refrigerator

I believe the problem is with the drain line when the frig goes into defrost mode

see if you can trace the drain line that oes into the evaporator pan at the bottom of the frig

facing the frig remove the bottom panel that goes across the front and pull out the evaporator tray to see if it is dry

take a flashlight and see if you can see a plastic tube that the water should be dripping into the pan

try to trace the tube up into the frig ther is some type of catch basin inside the frig on the back panel usually around middle area

If you are not able to find it you can call whrlpol customer service 1-800-253-1301
or call an appliance service enter and as them f they can walk you through the problem

Good Luck

Water collects on the bottom of the freezer i own a frigidaire s/s frs26zrg, water also comes out onto the floor on the left side. Doesn't look like its coming from inside of the frig saw it once as...

UNPLUG REFRIG. Empty freezer. Wipe interior dry. Check defrost hole at back of freezer & clean out as much as you can. Pull out refrig. Take off back cardboard cover. Lie on floor and look in. Bottom right under the defrost hole there is a black rubber hose that empties into a drip tray. Black mold grows inside and plugs it up. Get a thin aquarium brush and push it up the tube to clear it. Put the tube back into the tray to drain. Put everything back. Plug it in. Fixed.
