My 24 volt trolling motor is wired correctly at the batteries. the plug at the bow has two red wires and one negitive wire. from the plug to the peddle there is one red/black and one black. the two red wires read 13 volts each but when I check the peddle it reads 13. Should it read 24?

SOURCE: Converting From 12/24 to Starght 24 Volt

if it is 24v. then you need to connect 2 battery in parallel. since the battery is only 12v.
if one battery is shoing red and the other is sohwing green, that means you are using 12v only, not the 24v.
connetion as follow:
positve of battery 1 to the motor, the negative of battery 1 to postive of battery 2. the negative of battery 2 to the motor.

The batteries must be connected in SERIES. The method described is proper, but the name of the method is wrong.
On the female plug for the motor on the boat, if you have the wiring for TWO separate batteries coming to the plug, the male plug must have a jumper in it. To find out, disconnect the batteries one at a time and voltage check to see if there are two separate battery systems there. There probably are. If so, the series circuit is provided for in the male plug by the jumper and not in the back of the boat where the batteries must be wired independent of each other.

SOURCE: diagram of 36 volt hookup for trolling motor

To get 36 volts, number batteries 1 thru 3. connect pos 2 to neg 1, connect pos 3 to neg 2, connect pos 1 to trolling motor controller and neg 3 to ground on trolling motor.
This is only a solution for 3 battery system.
For 4 battery system, connect 4 to 3 pos to pos and neg to neg.

12 24 SYSTEM 2 BATTERYS BOTH WIRED SEPARATE GOING TO THE BOW OF BOAT 4 HOLE PLUG 3 WIRES GOING TO TROLLING MOTOR 12 24 SWITCH 12 OFF 24 ONLY RUNS ON 12 AND STOPS ON OFF BUT NOTHING ON 24

It is likely to be a function of the switch to place both batteries in parallel in the 12 volt position and in series in the 24 volt position - this is likely to make the switch and the wiring fairly complicated as the motor could be wired internally in a variety of ways and the switch will also need to send the right voltage down the right wires.

I suggest you first ensure both batteries are fully charged and in good order. Once you are certain of that it is time to inspect the switch and wiring and test the voltages. A wiring diagram would make the task much easier.

Great white trolling motor, bow mount,24 volt, 82lb thrust / big problems! Burned up Marinco plug, replaced plug, recetacle, fuses on. batteries, tech says motor runs fine on bench, but not on boat. Getting 24...

The heat is developed from to much resistance from batteries to TM, check for loose/corroded connections at batteries, including the jumperwire, also check the size of wire from battery to plug, should be at least 8 gauge if not 6 gauge depending on the length of run. If corrosion has built up inside the wires this will also cause high resistance causing excessive heat build up. I would prolly just replace boat wiring to make sure none of the above problems are present. Use tinned copper marine grade wire that is multi stranded.

24 volt trolling motor (motorguide) not working. Have 24 volts at receptacle in hull of boat but when I plug in the trolling motor and check the volts on the plug, I only read 6 volts. Any idea whats...

You have a high resistance short either inside the wiring or the lower unit. This will cause a voltage drop. I would be very careful not to keep it connected too long cuz the battery is trying to keep up with the current demand and may explode.

24 volt trolling motor wiring

Just like a flashlight. Positive to neg, In a loop going to the motor. That is the jump between the batteries, One red wire coming in from motor, it will go to pos, from one battery, the neg will go to the 2nd battery pos. From the 2nd battery neg will go to the motor. That is it, one jumper connecting the 2 batteries, will create the 24 volts. Hope this helps.

Here is a picture of the wire connection for 24 volt. Compare to yours is it correct? If it is, I wish you listed make and model I could of sent you the right picture diagram of you motor. Use this picture as a starting point. Test the wires through the motor testing for 24 volts. Again if I knew make and model I could show you exactly were. Last if voltage is correct all the way through. The motor is the last thing to tear down. If the brushes or armeture is damaged in anyway, or manufactured wrong, it would lead to power loss.
