Question about Hotpoint Ovens

Open Question

I have a 1996 hotpoint range with no manual. It was removed during some home improvements now I need to hook the electricity back up. I have hot, neutral, and ground from the wall, two hot wires, a neutral and a ground from the range. What is the proper hook-up sequence?

SOURCE: Gas oven electrical hookup issue

Hello. I can help you. What you have there at the wall is a circuit with 120 volts of power available. Your Gas oven requires 240 volts of power, thus the additional [red] wire. That said, they do not match up.

You will have to run a 240 volt wire from your electrical panel to rear of your stove opening with the correct circuit breaker in the panel, the correct amperage wire to the stove, the correct receptacle for the stove and the correct plug on the stove.

This is serious electricity here so do not proceed on your own as you could get seriously hurt or worse.

No stove wires hooked up to neutral

The older electric hookups for ranges used only the 2 hot wires and a ground. Somewhere on the range the neutral and the ground should be connected together. This connection is no longer accepted by the National Electrical Code, but no one is going to force you to change the wiring unless you change the range.
Where is the ground wire attached? Some ranges had a metal jumper to connect the neutral to the ground. Your oven element is 240 volt only. It does not need a neutral. The ground/neutral wire is for some of the controls and the clock.

Turned on oven to 325 degrees it kept heating till very hot and now oven will not turn off

Good Morning Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire electric oven will not shut off. I also see that it gets very hot, way past the set temperature of 325 degrees. I suggest resetting your appliance, by shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Once power is restored, you will need to set the clock before starting any cycle. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your range status has changed successfully. If further troubleshooting is needed, please leave me the model number of your range. Typically this number can be found on the back of the door or possibly in the bottom drawer. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Just went thru this with my GE/Hotpoint oven....the oven temp sensor removed from oven should measure about 2K ohms and vary when put in ice water and hot water...if it does then problem is control panel circuit board. My oven's board was listed at $300+ so I bought new range ($500+).

Random intermittant crackling sound from Hotpoint electric oven

This could be insulation on the wiring or more importantly the connecting spot might be frying. In any event, disassemble it and check into it.

How do i reset the clock on my Hotpoint SY36 Style Line Stainless Steel Electric Single Oven

Usually to the set the clock it's pretty simple on most ranges. However I'm not extermely familair with this specific one but I am familair with most other ones. For some reason my firewall wouldn't let me download the manual and upload it here. However here's the link that I was looking at. I've used this site before but sometimes it's hit and miss. If you find no other solution, call GE at 1-800- GE CARES. Hotpoint is made by GE so they should be able to point you in the right direction or at least their internal website so you can download a manual. Hope it helps and Happy Holidays.

How to remove the top on a hotpoint electric stove so I can replace the burners

Most ranges attach at the rear. Just underneath the seam, where the top meets the body, there are usually 2 screws (toward the outer edge) that press 2 metal clips. Remove the 2 screws and lift up, back to front. with model info, i can give you a link to the repair manual, online.

Hotpoint dy46 x oven

Hi there,

Usually with ovens not heating up the element has gone and needs replacing. A few checks to do before going to the expense and trouble of replacing are to check the House Power Box Fuses to make sure none a blown - especially look for the one relating to the Oven or Range. If blown replace the fuse wire. If it blows again you have a problem with the power point or appliance. Does the Oven Fan work? If so chances are the oven is getting power as is the element and your house electrical lines to the Oven are fine and the element needs replacing. Not knowing the particular Brand you have amkes it difficult say how to remove the element. Some elements are accessible from inside the oven - others you have to remove the oven and get access from behind by removing a panel. Whatever you do if you do decide to remove the element MAKE SURE you TURN OFF THE POWER to the Oven. Hope this helps.

Regards
Bryan
