Perhaps the regulator is going bad, cheap and easy to replace. If not the regulator, then there is probably a blockage in the pilot assembly. If you don't use it for some time, and don't put it inside, or cover it, dirt and insects can get inside and cause a blockage.
You have to take the head apart to clear a blockage. If you are not comfortable with taking the head apart, hire someone to do it.

You don't mention any error codes displayed. If this is the case I would start with a new main PCB. It should try and light for approx. 10 seconds and then go to lockout with an error code 11 if it was a gas supply issue. This is all controlled by the PCB hence my opinion on a PCB fault.

To check the patio heater first make sure all the pipes/hose are clear, remove debris and check for insects, water and air. If these are all clear and the regulator is working OK then the most likely cause will be a worn thermocople, these wear out and are easy and cheap to replace. Found this site very useful for patio heater top repair tips.
