Question about Hyundai Electronics Televison & Video

3 Answers

Hello. First, thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer! I have a Hyundai flat-screen t.v., Model # HQL260WR (manufactured in January 2005). For the most part it works perfectly, but every once in a while when I turn it on (maybe 1 out of 10 times), the screen will come on for 1 second, then the t.v. will shut itself down. When this happens, even the little red power indicator light (that shows that the set is plugged in & ready) cuts off. Once this happens, I have to unplug the set, plug it back in, wait for the red power indicator light to come back on, then try to turn the set on again. It doesn't matter if I'm using the remote, or manually hitting the power switch on top of the set. Either way, the screen flashes on for 1 second, then cuts out. Since it's only been happening about 1 out of 10 times, I've just kind of rolled with the situation. But two days ago, it started happening every time I tried to turn on the t.v. I don't know if it's a loose wire inside the set, or perhaps a software glitch... Any thoughts, insights or suggestions you might have will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks again!

Sorry for the delay in my reply. In the midst of moving, which is why I was posting my original question: If it was going to cost more to solve the problem than to ship the t.v., I was just going to junk it. Any thoughts on what something like this costs (parts and labor)? Is it simple enough repair that you think I could do it on my own? I'm not worried about the original warranty on the t.v.
I'm not electronics expert, but if it's just a matter of opening up the set and switching out a part, I think I could likely do it...
    Thanks again for your reply!

You rock, Ginko! Many thanks for the specific repair kit info. Sounds like the repair would be a fairly inexpensive one. It's going to cost me about $100.00 to ship and insure this t.v. to my new home, as I'm relocating to another state on May 31st.
Would you suggest I keep it and ship it, or trash and replace the whole t.v....?

    Thanks again for your help!

Hi salt56! First, thanks for your expert suggestion. Below is a reply I received from another FixYa guru. Any thoughts about his suggestion?

"It is not a lose wire. If problem was a lose wire or a bad solder joint it would have been sensible to vibration and the TV would have turned off when touched.

It is not a software problem either. The software cannot turn off the TV completely, at most the TV would freeze or go in standby.

If TV goes off completely, the problem is usually a defective PSU in rare situations a defective inverted can also give similar problems.

The problem is usually the PSU, A component (usually a capacitor starts failing) The other capacitors in PSU can compensate the work that is not being done by the defective part, and the PSU works for a while, until problem starts happening more often and TV does not turn on at all. In some case a defective inverter can do the same. In that case the inverter oscillator section is defective. The problem with the inverter is very uncommon.

Check the power supply. Sometimes it is possible to see at a glance a burnt spot or capacitors bulged on top. If there is nothing at a glance the PSU should be tested before replacing it.

PSU part number is PSCV121106B the PSU is not available anymore, the repair must be done replacing the parts on PSU. Below the repair kit with the components. For safety reasons the repair must be done by a trained person.

Here the repair kit: Repair Kit PSU PSCV1211068"

    Hi.

If you are good with electronic repair, the kit usually does the job. Since the kit is not expensive, it is surely worth a go. As I said, when PSU goes off completely, the problem is usually the PSU.

    All the best.

You have a bad power supply. Trace the AC cord to the power supply. This module needs replacing. Do a search on Ebay with the model number or best with the part number from the power supply. Also try www.shopjimmy.com and google.

The power supply unscrews and unplugs. Easy to replace.

The red light you are talking about is the "stanby led light". All device that has a remote must have standby power to power the section to recieve infrared signals from the remote. When that standby light is off when the TV is turned off and plugged, it means it is not even getting any kind of power. First you want to make sure the outlet where you plug the TV is not defective. See if it does this when plugged somewhere else. I don't want to jump to the conclusion that the standby circuit section of the power supply is bad, which usually makes the standby led light blink, but you mentioned it just turns off so that means somehow the unit is not getting power at all in any way.

I don't have a solution.  From what I can tell, the video output simply does not work on the Hyundai HQL260WR.

Hyundai ImageQuest HQL260WR PARTS

I may have one later if the customer decides not to replace the power supply (might ping me in a month). Otherwise I believe this unit is actually made by Samsung and parts are a little more common for Samsung. Do some digging around google and ebay and see if you find any more information.

Lost receipt

Normally you are required to send the receipt away with the warranty card when you register the purchase for warranty with the manufacturer.

If the screen is broke as in "cracked", it's typically not practical to replace that part.
