SOURCE: The sound is distorted and overwhelmed by static

Depends what the real problem is.

Is it related to certain sources only - try new or reseated cables, swap it to a different input; single channel - swap to isolate; or certain controls that have become noisy? A shop might be able to get some tuner cleaner into them.

SOURCE: I don't have a remote for my panasonic sa-xr25.

Get your reading glasses out. There's a button marked "Enhance Surround" two clicks to the left of the Volume Control.

It sounds like you are activating a test mode to set your surround speaker levels.
Usually you should do this before using any surround sound modes.

If you could post the exact model; we can search for an owners manual.

My Panassonic SA-XR50 Receiver is not producing surround sound from either of the Optical imputs from the TV or DVDR Both outputs are stereo L and R + subwoofer How do I rectify this What settings should I...

First enable the surround sound mode for the selected input and verify that the media playing is recorded in some mode of surround sound.
You can however, acheive surround sound from 2 channel sources with dolby prologic or prologicII sound processing, or other proprietary modes that your receiver might have from the manufacturer.

Panasonic Receiver SA-XR25

I thought it might be heat related, so I put a small battery operated fan behind the receiver, and voila, no more clicking. I just have to invest in rechargable batteries or an electric fan.

Receiver has lost audio

There are four surface mounted caps, 22uf/10v under the surround processor PCB on the main PCB.
Just replace them all.
That took care of my static problem.

No sound on DVD mode

Make sure when you select DVD mode that it's not set to "6 ch". (The display will say "DVD 6CH") If you are in the 6CH mode, Use the remote to switch out of this mode by hitting the DVD button again. Hope this helps.
