Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have a Carver CT-26v I just purchased on eBay. I have tried to get any audio but nothing. The display works and you can select any source. I tried everything. I made sure the sources were all correct, I made sure the tape monitor was selected to source. I tried with headphones and the preamp out. I don't even get a thump, hum, or hiss. Nothing! The standby light blinks for 5 sec (Relay makes a single click at that time). The standby light then stays on (No other clicks or noises). Help!

SOURCE: selecting source for 3000f

Hi, a possible explanation why the CanoScan 3000F does not show in the Source Box selection is because Windows does not recognize it as being connected. To check, you have to go to Device Manager, Imaging Devices, expand it and see if the CanoScan 3000F is installed. If it is not there, then you would have to reinstall the drivers. Another possibility is a faulty USB cable or the USB port connector itself. Try a different cable or a different USB port. Another way of looking at it is that you were able to install the scanning software but not the actual driver(s) of the scanner. Hope this be of help to you. Good luck and pls post again how things turn up.

SOURCE: Radio wont work

wfdyer,

go buy a new radio. You can usually get free installation. If you are a do it yourselfer. Then go to crutchfields web site. They are great, they give you the adaptor plates and wire harness to go from what ever radio you get to the car, with no splicing (cutting and reconnecting of wires) They will tell you what radios will not work and tell you what ones will.

Sorry to say it but you have power to the radio, and there are really 3 things a radio needs to work. power, speakers, and a signal. you can check the antena to make sure its not broken or disconnected. but most of the times its the radio

I have acarver receiver mxr 130 receiver no sound output to speakers but desplay is lit

I know this is a old post but check all your connections.

There is a common issue with a lot of these recievers that have no output and typically it is the protection relays out to the speakers that fail. There is a person on ebay that sells these replacement relays. link is here. thanks http://www.ebay.com/itm/221121502953?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Carver CT-28v Tuner preamp - Has a hum/buzz (soundls like a ground loop) that is heard as soon as the unit is turned on. Does not increase with volume, just stays the same and is continuous. Changing...

Reverse the polarity of the AC plug and try it. Is there a headphone jack on the preamp? Try headphones with the preamp standalone without the amp attached.

Are you sure the preamp is the problem? I assume you also have an amp or you wouldn't hear anything. Power up the amp with nothing but speakers attached. Hum??? It's in the amp. No Hum? Attach just the preamp with no external components. Hum now? It's the CT-28. Turn it off an exercise every switch and knob throughout its range numerous times. Try again. Still humming? Manipulate source selections, Tape Monitor, everything.

Carver M-1.5t amp. blows 15 amp fuse.

First off....you didn't say if you are a tech or not. I'll make this really simple.

If you are not a seasoned tech with experience solving carver problems....you will waste tons of time and money guessing what the problem might be.

Carvers are quite the unique beast. They deliver whopping amounts of power in a small chassis. This is done by using a trick switching power supply. There can be any number of possible problems.

To properly diagnose this you will need an oscilloscope, signal generator, variac, and of course a really good quality multimeter that can test diodes and transistors.

IF and only IF you are a seasoned tech with all the above equipment, that has no experience repairing carver, then go online to ebay, find member techman777, and for around $15 you can get a nicely reprinted service manual. Troubleshooting expertise and the manual will take you foreward from there because the manual has a very thorough troubleshooting guide in it.

If you think you can fudge your way through the guide without any serious electronics knowledge, you are in for a rude shock as you will find that you are an earth man trying to read martian.

If you are just a casual fix it guy ( nothing wrong with that !!! ), I strongly suggest that you do NOT make this your first try at fixing an amp.

The value of these, in mint condition, all rebuilt is around $350- $450 on ebay all day long. if you are willing to invest that much, you can look up carver audio repair on google and send it off to them, as they are reported to do a nice job. OR....you can look me up on ebay, send it to me and I will do a nice job too, and that comes from 20+ years of repairing.

I know that this isn't much help, but carvers are very special, and require special knowledge to repair.

Best of luck.....Rob

Try replacing C901, a 47uF/25v capacitor that is part of the FL display circuit.
