Question about Kenmore 29042

3 Answers

I have a Kenmore clothes washer model 29042. After a load finished, the door was locked although the light was not on. I reset it to run a final rinse, again, but when it finished the cycle, the door was still locked and the light not own. So in my infinite wisdom, I forced open the door to remove the wet clothes. Now, the lock mechanism remains locked and the door will not close. Do you suggest how I can fix this without scheduling a repair visit? Thanks

Kevin, close but not that ez... I unplugged the unit, removed the bottom panel, chkd the filter assemby, and was able to get past the boot (no wire, but glue). With boot pealed back, and the screws removed holding the lock mechanism, the wires running to the mechanism are short and the assembly cannot be pulled out far enough (like in the video) to see how to remove the electronic plugs. It appears the panel front of the washer needs to be removed to access the wiring, but cannot figure how to do that...

What is the easiest way? Like in the video (I cannot access the lock mechanism because the wiring is too short) or removing the front of the washer (do you have instructions for that?) so I can have access to the wiring to remove the mechanism. To note: the dryer companion to this washer is stacked on top. Thanks Kevin.

I have a Kenmore front load washer 29042. The lock mechanism needs to be replaced. Kevin White sent me instructions to replace the lock. Problem is the electronic wires are not long enough to pull the mechanism out from behind the front panel (as shown in the video Kevin sent). To actually access the wires and remove them from the mechanism, Kevin agrees I need to remove the front panel (the lower panel has been removed) and need those instructions. Can someone else help? (also the 29042, works as a side-by-side or stack with the dryer; in my case, it is a stack). Thank you.

that forum has no relation to my issue.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

As you know the problem is with the door lock mechanism that is bad and needs replacement however, before replacing take the bottom access panel apart and clean the drain pump filter assembly completely. Affter this if the problem is still there then it is the door lock assembly that needs replacement, you can view this video to decide if you want to replace it yourself or get this done by a repairman:

Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Washer just finished a load worked fine, went to start new load and power button doesn't work but light for the door is on. Kenmore front loader mdl 40441900

Make sure clothing is not keeping the door from closing right, and the machine has had enough time to reset between loads.

Kenmore front load washer door won't latch lock light on

On some Kenmore front load models, if the black gasket around the door opening is unseated (for example, because you drag some heavy wet laundry over it) the door will not engage the lock and stay closed. This is a feature to prevent the washer from leaking when the gasket is not sealed. To fix it, simply reseat the gasket and the door will close and lock.

Hello! My Kenmore washer door will not open. It's completely locked and will not budge no matter what I've tried. I have a load of cloths in there as well. When I turned the power on detergent and cloths...

Unplug the washer for AT LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). If the door still remains locked after a CCU reset, you can still open the door by using the manual release. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r622155-kenmore_elite_whirlpool_duet_door_jammed

NOTE: The "Fdl" and Fdu" fault codes are for older models of your washer, but the principle of accessing and releasing the door latch is still the same.

If your error code still persists, you may have to replace the door latch. Just follow the guidance in the link below:

Door stuck Locked Control Locked light on

Try unplugging the washer for at 30 minutes to reset the computer, first. If this proves unsuccessful, you can retrieve you clothes by using the manual release. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r622155-kenmore_elite_whirlpool_duet_door_jammed

Once you retrieve your clothes, try running diagnostics on it. You can envoke the diagnostic sequence by selecting DRAIN/SPIN, NO/SPIN and then pressing any button under OPTIONS 4 times (must be the same button). The display should go to "C00" as the washer begins a sequence of tests that checks the fill functions, door lock, dispenser functions, motor speed, spin and drain. Allow the washer to run through the entire sequence and shut off. If anything is wrong an error code should be generated. Hopefully, all you had was a minor glitch. Let me know how things turn out. I hope this helps you.

You have to remove and clean the rubber around the front of door,
, Snap it back on.
disconnect AC to prevent any accidental shock.
open the bottom access panel
screws on bottom front , open the large filter and be ready for latent water to spill out , have rags ready.

clean the inside of the filter with clorox.
finally run a strong solution of clorox when you finish.
then rinse well.
leave the door open after loads finish
the door has a child lock
black dot next to lock on door , insert coin and rotate.
keeps them from closing the door.
