Hello, check to make sure you are getting 24 volts at the contactor coil, if you are and yet the contactor does not energize replace it. If you do not have 24 volts inspect the thermostat wiring and thermostat. If the contactor does energize but still the compressor or fan do not run then most likely you have a bad capacitor and must be replaced.

Motor seems to be running, but nothing gets cooled

Hi there

You think the motor is running this can often only be the fan inside, the only way to check if the compressor is running is to pull the unit out listen carefully. You can feel the compressor to see if it is running but BE CAREFUL, if the compressor has a problem it can get to around 180 deg f (80 deg C) you may have to use a glove, or with the unit switched off and unplugged wet your finger then touch the compressor, any moisture will evaporate very quickly if it is hot. There may also be a fan on the condenser, check if this is running.

1. If the compressor is cold it is likely that there is no power going to it from the thermostat this is a very common failure and fairly easy to do if you feel competent.
2. If the compressor feels hot and there is a fan next to it which does not run then it is likely to be the fan.
3. If the compressor is hot and the fan is running try cleaning the condenser grille gently with a soft brush and vacuum cleaner.
4. If 3 above is OK and still nothing then either there is a problem with the gas charge or there is a problem with the compressor, either of these will need your local reputable service guy.

Let me know if I can help further

My air conditioner has stop working its blowing air inside but the fan is not spinning outside .....

If the fan is not running is the compressor not running also...if neither is running the possible reasons are 1..no power to outside unit...2..bad contactor on outside unit.is this buzzing if it is this indicates no power...3 bad capacitor,do both compressor and fan humm then quit humming and hum some more...4 high pressure switch has shut unit down because fan wasnt running if compressor was running but not fan....if your unit has this there will be a manual reset button where the lines come out of unit...if compressor was running and fan was not...1 bad fan...2 bad capacitor.. if you do not have any electrical knowhow i would recommend calling a hvac tech to come and fix unit...Thanks

True tpp67 doesnt run. no fan. just dead!

Several things to check. Obviously does it have power going into the machine? Sometimes breakers kick out if you have more than one appliance like this on the same circuit. Next open the door to see if the inside light comes on. Look for the on/off switch. Turn it on and set it to coldest position. Still nothing? There is a termnal block where all the wires come together near the compressor. You will have to check to see if there is power at that point. The inside fans shoud be running even if th compressor is not running. If your unit has a pressure switch instead of a thermostat. it will prevent the compressor from coming on. It has two little windows in it.If you take the cover off and put a jumper wire between the contacts of this pressure control switch and the compressor comes on, you are out of freon.

The compressor is not coming on

Is the fan in the outdoor unit coming on? If it is, that narrows the problem to just the compressor or capacitor. If neither is running, check the disconnect or circuit breaker or fuses that are located close to the outside unit. If the unit has power, remove the cover where the power goes into the outside unit, set the thermostat to make the unit come on and see if the contactor is pulled in. If it is, use a meter to check for power on the load side of the contactor. If the fan is running, check the capacitor for the compressor. Most units use one that works both the fan and the compressor. If the capacitor looks swollen then it is bad, otherwise use a multimeter with the capacitor check function to test it. If the capacitor is good, check the compressor motor windings with the multimeter on the resistance function. Let me know what you find and I can give you more advice if this doesn't get you going.

Neither A/C compressor or fan coming on in ouside unit.

The bulge is a telltale sign of a defective capacitor along with the tripped breaker. Replace it and cross your fingers.

Turn the thermostat as low as it will go and have someone stand out side, they should here the condensor fan and compressor come on at the same time. They are two distinctive sounds so you should
be able to tell if the compressor is running.

If nothing happens and you are skilled with electrical
you can turn power off and remove the electrical
cover to the outside unit. Restore power and carefully
push in the contactor, if the fan and compressor
starts you have a thermostat or low voltage problem.

If just the outdoor fan runs on any attempt, more than likely you need a new capacitor.

Outdoor unit hums but fan doesn't turn. Nothing heats up but the fan just won't turn and is there a spot to oil the fan on the motor

The fan motor on the outside unit should be a sealed motor. If the unit is just humming is the humming from the compressor or from the motor being locked up. You could try spinning it a few times with the power off to see if this might get it to run and spray some penetrating oil under the fan blade right where the shaft comes out to the fan blade.

Inside the air is blowing, but the outside unit fan isn't moving at all. HOUSE IT HOT!!!

Two things; outside does the compressor try to come on? If not you may have a switch\Thermotat problem. Also make sure the breaker to the outside unit hasn't tripped. If it has tripped there may still be a problem after you turn the breaker back on. If it's only the fan that's not coming on outside you will need a new capacitor or fan motor and compressor(if the fan motor is replaced you should have a new capacitor also. If it has been intensely hot your unit might have just gotten overworked. Then resetting the breaker is all that is needed. If you have continuos resettings you MUST call a qualified HVAC Tech.

Carrier AC 38CKC019 may have overheated. The fan unit buzzes but does not turn.

Hey there, ok, now if the fan is spinning and the compressor is buzzing, the compressor is locked up and needs to be replaced. If neither is running and the buzzing is coming from the control panel on the unit, it could be the contactor. Also there is a chance that the fan motor burned up, causing the compressor to fail so the fan would be off but the compressor is buzzing and locked up. If nothing is running also check the circuit breaker it could just be he conactor you are hearing. At that point you need to figure out why the breaker tripped. Let me know what you find out

A/c unit not working

So only fan is running, the compressor not running okay check the voltage going to the compressor. The connection is coming from Thermostat or temperature controller, if there is supply going to A/c Comp. check the safety thermostat relay above the compressor.
