Hi,
Let's see if I can help you. The following is the procedure I use in my business when I encounter the problem you've presented. It works for me 95% of the time.

Begin by turning on your computer and your router

? Open Internet Explorer;
? Click on 'Tools';
? Click on 'Internet Options';
? Click on 'Connections';
? Click on 'Setup'
? Click on 'I want to set up my Internet connections manually . . .';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'I connect through a local area network (LAN);
? Clock on 'Next'
? Click on 'Next' [This is not an error];
? Click on 'No';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'To connect to the Internet immediately . . .; and,
? Click on 'Finish'.

That should have you online

All the best

Ben

What info are you pulling from cmd? if its your individual ip thats were your going wrong. if your at home then im pretty sure your using a DHCP protocol if so the dhcp or auto ip box should be checked. your router should have a default ip address that is automatically assigned by the manufacture. If setting up a DHCP connection you have no need for info in your computer. If you are working with static ips then of course those ip should have been provided to you by your isp... Alternatively you can skip the disk set up and log into your router and finish the setup manually wich is very easy. if you need help with manual set up please reply back with your router model and i will be glad to walk you thru it.

How to configure router. How to access router configuration

When you buy a router they usually come with "setup" Cd's that set up your router, or guide you through the process. What most people do not know is you do not need this CD and in my experience these disc can cause frustration and confusion.

You can access your router and configure it simply by using your internet browser like Internet Explorer or FireFox.

On most routers(reference your user manual) you can access the router configuration page by going to the gateway address. The gateway address is the IP address assigned to your router. In a lot of the cases, this address is 192.168.1.1 but depends on your router.
There are a couple of ways to find out this IP address.
-Reference your router manual
or
-In Microsoft Windows, go to Start > Run and in the run box type "cmd" or "command". A black window should open(MS-DOS). In this window, type "ipconfig /all". Look near the top of the output that is shows and you should see a "gateway address" field. This number is the ip address of your router.

Once you know your gateway address, open up your internet browser as if you were going to go to a website. In the URL(address) bar, type the gateway address and hit enter(see image below). A log in box should now show. Again, reference your router manual if you do not know the administrative password. Enter in your password and username. The following website has a list of default username and passwords and you may be able to find your router in the list. Click here for the website.

Once you log in you now have access to the router settings and you can configure what you please. You can configure wireless settings, router log in credentials and other options. Have a look around and get familiar with it.

I would recommend that if your router has a default password for admin/configuration access, that you go ahead and create a new one. The default router passwords are usually very simple and this information can be easily found on the internet by anyone(as seen by the link I provided above!). People who set up home networks tend to leave this as is and it is a security risk.

TIPS
-If you can't connect to the router and you know the gateway address, try plugging the computer into the router directly using a Ethernet cable(LAN/patch cable). If you are still having trouble, you can perform a power cycle. Turn off your modem, router and computer. After 10 seconds turn on your modem, after 30 seconds turn on your router and after another 30 seconds turn on your computer. Try to access the router now. This also helps resolve other quirky router issues.
-Make sure all the network cables, phone lines(if using DSL) and coaxial cables(cable/Broadband) are plugged in and secured firmly.

-If you set up a password and username for your routers administrative access and can't remember it, you can reset the username and password back to factory default by performing a factory reset. On most routers this can be achieved by pressing and holding the small reset button on the back of the router for 15 seconds. Please reference router user manual for more information.

I hope this article was informative. Every time I run the DSL-504 ADSL2 Ethernet Router CD disc to setup my internet connection, always get the dslultility.exe message say "modam not deteched....." but everything is...

To release and renew IP address, go to Start > Run. Type in CMD and press Enter. At the prompt, type in ipconfig and press Enter. This will display the adapter information such as IP address, Subnet mask, and default gateway.

To view additional information such as Mac address, DNS servers, etc, type in ipconfig /all.

To release IP address, type ipconfig /release.

To renew IP address, type ipconfig /renew.

If you are not able to get an IP address try setting one statically:

Windows 2000

Step 1 Right-click on My Network Places and select Properties.

Step 2 Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your network card and select Properties.

Step 3 Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. Enter your IP information for your network.

If connecting to a router, make sure the default gateway and a DNS server is the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

Windows XP

Step 4 Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network connections.

Step 5 See Step 2 for Windows 2000 and continue from there.

I'm setting up a new router. I was instructed to go to routerlogin to work withy settings, but I am directed to a web page, not the router. How do I complete setup of the router?

RECONFIGURE THE ROUTER:
1. Please remove all the connections from the router. Connect power to the router and then connect a cable from the computer into any of the 4 lan ports on the router. Make sure the modem should not be connected to the router or to the computer.
2. Open up the Internet Browser (Safari, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc.).
3. Put http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm in address bar.
4. On the basic setting page scroll to the bottom and click on Apply.
5. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
6. Click on Setup Wizard and then select "Yes" and Click "Next" on the detection window.
7. It should give you a "Dynamic IP Detected" or "pppoe detected"(type the Username & Password of your dsl account in case of pppoe detection) and then click next.
8. Click Apply.
9. Logout of the router.
10. Open up another browser window and try to access internet.

prakash

I dont know crouter configuration

Hai,

Look at your computer's IP configuration. Go to Network and Dial-up Connections, RIGHT CLICK on your network and pick PROPERTIES. Click on the Internet TCP/IP protocol, then click on the PROPERTIES button. Make sure that your settings are OBTAIN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY.

Then get into your status screen and look at the GATEWAY address. Is that 192.168.0.1 ?

(If you are using Windows 95/98/ME, then go to RUN and go to WINIPCFG)

You can also use the COMMAND PROMPT and type IPCONFIG and it will show the Gateway address. If the Gateway address is slightly different, then try to get into it at that address.

Also from the COMMAND PROMPT, (or MS-DOS window) you can use the PING command. Just type PING 192.168.0.1. If your router responds, you might be OK.

Look at the lights on your ethernet card. Is it GREEN, or does it show YELLOW.

Try rebooting your computer and using PING again.

Then the problem presist it's possible that this Router is NO GOOD.

Hope this Helped!
