Question about Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

2 Answers

I cleaned out my brush in the bottom front, cleaned out the small tubing going into the canister, and the canister itself. I also changed the filter.I snapped everything back into place, but Since then, it doesn't seem to have any suction and there seems to be a space between the canister and the bottom of the vacumm where the canister sits. At that area, you can feel air coming out when trying to vacumm and it just doesn't pick up, it seems to be just blowing stuff around.

I tried ur solution, it's not work n. No matter how many times I remove and replace the canister, the space is still there. And air is escaping from the space between the bottom of the canister and the base of the vacuum.

You need to really look at it some thing is out of line you shooed not have
any spaces in the top or bottom
pull the canister back out and look at the pins that you lined up with the
top and the canister you might have missed arrows that need to be lined
up so it fits tightly in its holder
ive had the same problem with my hover mach5

i hope this helps you

there has to be a handle that tightens the canister up

its a small handle that slides back and forth if not

i really believe you are missing a rubber washer

on the bottom of the canister

  • You want to put the cyclone in the plastic bin first and then set the two on the base of the vacuum. Them two steps are important. (see diagram)
  • Line up the front and rear guides and push down to click into place.
  • Make sure you did not loose that little black gasket on the end of the yellow cyclone. If it's not there check the trash or the hole in the vacuum where it sets.

I cleaned the filter and emptied out the canister from the bottom and now the dirt comes out on my filter and not in the canister?

The first place the "dirty" air enters is the top chamber of the canister where it traps the bigger stuff.

The canister has two clean-out doors so make sure you open them both (top and bottom) or you could have problems.

Nice thing about the Shark as it has a number of clean-out points starting at the base of the hose where it enters the bottom of the vac. to the beater brush (on the bottom of just behind the brush assembly). Good luck!

The beater bar on my Kenmore Progressive stopped turning. I tried to clean the hair out of it, then switched it back on. The bar still wasn't turning and then it started to smoke..... lots of smoke,...

The belt is broken.First while looking at the brushes, find the screws that hold that bottom plate on.Remove the screws and the plate comes off. This will allow you to lift the brush out of the vacuum. It is important to make note of how the brush fits in the vacuum. The new belt will fit on a groove on the brush. The other end fits on a small wheel about six inches back from the brush.

Thank you for using Fix Ya.

Very little suction when vacumming

Hi There,

I think I know exactly what the problem is with your Dyson. I'd be happy to try and walk you through it, but just want to make sure that you still need help, or if you've already fixed the problem.

Ive changed the filter and checked the hoses but vacuum doesnt pick up ...when its on the dust is being blown out the bottom of the vacuum....i took the canister off to test the suction its fine...also...

have you check the roller brush and drive belt? It may be your belt has broke or is slipping and therefore not turning the brush.
Turn on machine and power head see if brush is turning if it is put a small amount of pressure on the roller. If it stops turning replace the belt

Clogged filter

I found that the rubber seal on the bottom of my cyclone is not properly seated to the bottom of canister, I guessed when I removed the clear canister bin completely from cyclone unit for cleaning, I put the cyclone down on the floor and rubber seal accidentally move upward just a little. this creates a small gap on the bottom when I reassembled it, (since seal is up from it original position a little). I pulled rubber seal down to its original position, you will notice that there should not be a gap on the bottom at all, this way you do not have to clean or should not have to clean the filter but once a month or even less.

Buckaboo, you say the debris no longer collects in the cup? Does that mean you don't have suction as well?

The brushroll has it's own motor so the brushes spinning doesn't necessarily mean there's not a problem with the wiring, the switch, or the motor.

Assuming you haven't inadvertantly set the selector switch to floor when you wanted to use the hose or vice versa, try the following.

Start with the motor/impeller first. Take the dust canister off and turn the vacuum on. It doesn't matter if you turn on the brushroll or not as you're looking for suction.

With the vacuum on feel for exhaust out the front of the motor (by the secondary handle on the bottom. Also put your hand over the area where the dust canister sits. You should feel strong exhaust and suction respectively.

If not, then you should take it in to a technician as going any further requires disassembly.

If you feel there's enough suction, then it may be as simple as a clog. This vacuum has a particularly easy air path to check. There's a clear snap-on door on the bottom to check the brushroll and neck. Then from there it's a straight shot through the canister itself before dumping inside and going through the filter. If it's the hose, you can turn the end clockwise to remove it from the body of the vacuum and use a broomstick to clear any clogs.

If it's not a clog or filter then you may try cleaning the seals (one round at the bottom of the canister where the canister mates to the body and a rectangular one in back of that where the dust runs up and into the canister.

Good Luck!

I have a dyson that is picking up just fine when on vacuum mode, however when I try to use the suction tube there is no suction at all. It is not blocked and the canister is empty. Help!

Hi, I have an upright DC03, brilliant machine. Mine wouldn't **** and had the following symptoms;
- it sucked ok from the top hole where the canister joins the unit - with the canister the dust didn't spin aroun inside the canister like it normally does and there was no **** at the hose end or brush end. - with the top of the canister attached (the cyclone) but not the bottom it sucked through the cyclone - the small valve on top of the cyclone unit was sucking heaps
this indicated to me the machine was sucking through the cyclone unit but when the canister was put on it was blocked - hence the tremendous sucking through the valve on the top of the cyclone. As far as I could see the cyclone wasn't blocked so I poked some wire down the tube inside the machine that runs from the bottom of the unit (where the hose sits) up to the bottom hole where the canister joins.
The DC03 has 2 holes where the canister attaches, it seems like it sucks air through the top hole, through the cyclone and through the lower hole sucks the dust up this inner tube into the canister. Check that tube, shine a torch from the top hole and you should be able to see the light at the bottom. Make sure you clear it completely.
Mine was very very blocked. I kept poking and removing dust until I could see light at through the tube. Works fine now.
Hopefully this helps someone as it took me awhile to work it out.
Good luck

make sure the brush is spinning and also make sure u there is not a clog right behind the canister when you detach it from the vacuum itself

it's probably the lower tube that is plugged, disconnect the lower tube at the elbow, use a large pipe cleaner (bent at the end your pushing through, as to not puncture the tube itself.) it should emerge just behind the brush. check in and around the pipe cleaner for any debris.

Need a new belt -- you might have suction but you need the brush to spin (hard to help without make or model, upright or canister)
