Question about Air Conditioning and Heat for Mitsubishi Eclipse

1 Answer

When turn on AC the compressor is working but no air is blowing. The AC light is on. When I turn up the dial to the second setting the AC light goes out, compressor stops running, and the air starts to blow but not cold air. I have a 2008 eclipse. Had the freon checked and it is good.

03 grand am ac wont blow cold air

Two things are very likely to be your problem. Freon or compressor. Turn on the ac on cold and see if the compressor is engaging, if it is and stops and goes or if it doesn't. try to check the compression on the low side of your ac, the smallest plug where you service the ac. Or take it to an ac professional to get it refilled or checked. Remember, just because its blowing air, it doesn't mean its working. There are fans inside the car that push the cold air inside your vehicle and most of the time these will work, but that's not the only part required to blow cold air inside your car, the compressor is what makes the air cold.

I have a 97 Toyota Camry. The AC has been working great and gets really cold. Yesterday as I am driving the light on the ac power button starts to blink, after about 45 seconds the ac turns off and stops...

CHECK THE AC AND HEATER CONTROL FUSE.MORE LIKELY FUSE BLOWED BECAUSE AC COMPRESSOR COULD HAVE FAILED IF LOW SIDE IS OVER 100 PSI. THE REED VALVE PLATE IN COMPRESSOR PROBABLY DAMAGED CAUSED COMPRESSOR FAILURE BLOWED THE HVAC CONTROLS FUSE. HAVE AC SHOP CHECK IT OUT.

01 Sebring convertible, AC was low on refrigerant, and would stop blowing cold air and start blowing warm air. I added refrigerant, and it worked perfectly for about 20 days. Now it blows cold, then it...

First of all if your system was low on refrigerant there is a leak. You can recharge and exspect the air to work, how long it will last depends on the size of the leak.Somtimes the refrigerant can have a leak prevenative but this is for very small leaks. You need to have dye put in to system and use black light to find leak.they make kits at your local auto parts store that you can buy and do this your self.If you say it worked well for about 20 days, that is a fairly large leak. The reason why the compressor is acting so erractic is because the freon has oil in it and lubracates the bearings in compressor. When the system goes low the compressor will turn on and off to protect itself.Eventually it will stop running completly.Idont think you have an electrical problem,Ithink you have a big leak.Try what I said and good luck....Brian

The air conditioner blows warm air the air compressor appears to be working when the air conditioner switch is turned on the unit is full of freon but the unit will not cool. I was trying to see if it...

First off, does your A/C engage the electro magnetic clutch on the compressor? Is your climate control all set to A/C function? Do you hear or see the radiator fan blowing at a high rate when switch is engaged? Do you see a constant flow of freon at the sight glass by the receiver dryer (little bubbles are fine)? This are just the basic visual test that a auto tech goes through so this might give you a gen idea of what to do easily on your own.

My 2002 Expedition air conditioner will sometimes blow hot air and others cold air

I would check the following possibilities:
1. Is compressor clutch working? - You need to do this when the ac is blowing hot air only - locate compressor drive pulley on engine - rubber belt wraps around it. Start engine and set to max ac. When the ac is blowing hot air, look at the center of the compressor drive pulley using a good flash light - watch it for a while, it should be spinning with the pulley - this means the compressor is engaged. If not, the compressor is not engaged. If your ac is blowing hot air, then the compressor should be engaged and running (trying to cool). If it is not engaged, then your compressor clutch is probably going out. Could be low voltage to clutch, but more likely the clutch is worn out and only working some of the time. Note: if working normally, the compressor clutch will engage and disengage in cycles- but the air should always be cold. If clutch is bad, compressor would need to be replaced (sold as one unit). This is tricky to diagnose and could take some time - you need to do it when ac is blowing hot air but set to max cooling.

2. Low on refrigerant or refrigerant has moisture in it? If your ac blows cold initially after being off for a while, then heats up, and continues to regularly cycle back and forth between hot and cool air, then the system may be low on refrigerant or the refrigerant may have moisture in it that is freezing and restricting refrigerant flow. An a/c shop can check refrigerant level and even replace refrigerant if moisture is suspected.

Could be other issues, but I would start with these.

Good luck

Ac not working on 2004 s430

If you have the hood up stand outside while someone activates your air off and on and see if the clutch on the compressor goes on and off while they activate the switch. If that isn't it the it could be improperly charged system or your climate control door that opens and closes for hot or air is not working properly and only stays on heat.

Has enough freon but still blows hot air, whats wrong with my air?

First you need to make sure your testing you ac when the car is on. If its still blowing hot air make sure you have the ac setting set and not the fan setting. If thats not the problem make sure the compressor in the ac is running it give off this distinct humming sound when the ac is turned on, you might need to put your ear next to it if you can find it. If the compressor isn't working check the wiring in the car, and make sure the fuse/chip for the compressor are fine.
