My HP Photosmart M425 camera turned itself on somehow and decided to run a diagnostic. Now, I have no clue what buttons got accidentally pushed, only that when the diagnostic was finished all our pictures were gone off the SD card. At least they're nowhere I can easily locate. I'd love to have these pictures back. Is that at all possible?

I think you should put your sd card in your computer and then try to locate the pictures on the sd card,
if you can't locate the pictures on the sd card then i am afraid you will have to retake the pictures

Lens error 22

The camera can be fixed. The lens and any other parts will have to be replaced.

You should first get an estimate for service. It may be cheaper and better to replace the camera.

Lens Error M425-12 (7F80) on HP M425

Try taking the SD card out and restart the camera. Also, make sure the batteries are fully charged. There is also a firmware upgrade indicating a problem with the lens getting stuck.

Lens Error M425-12 (7F80) on HP M425

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Wrong format on HP M425

Just fixed this problem on a M525 camera (same physical construction).

Do a search with M525 and format.
