Your watch has a snap-fit case; the back is simply pressed back into position with firm pressure. The problem is that modern snap-fit case backs are often very tightly fitted to increase their water-resistance--they're tough to get off, and even tougher to push back into position. I would not be surprised if you would need a jeweler's case press to get the back of this watch back into place.

A case press is just what it sounds like: a device for clamping watch cases back together. It's designed to provide an equal amount of force around the edges of the watch back without putting that same pressure on the watch crystal (which could cause it to crack or break). I'm aware of two basic styles. One style looks vaguely like a big pair of pliers, but with two swiveling plates instead plier jaws. The other style, which I prefer, sits on a table or workbench and uses a lever to push down the top plate. In both cases, nylon jigs are inserted to match the size of your watch.

You can find case presses and other watch repair tools at many jewelry supply stores, mail order supply houses like Otto Frei (http://www.ottofrei.com/store/home.php?cat=296 will take you right to the watch repair tools), and on eBay. However, if you're near a Harbor Freight store, they sell a "watch battery changing kit" and jeweler's press for a pretty reasonable price. These aren't the ultra-high quality tools that a professional jeweler would use, but they'll be perfectly fine for changing the occasional battery for many years. I've probably closed 100+ watches using the inexpensive press I got from there.

If you can't close the watch case with your bare hands and don't have access to a case press, your safest bet may be to go to a jewelry store or jewelry counter in a department store and ask if they could close the back for you with the proper tool. You may have to tip them a few dollars, but that is still far cheaper than the cost of replacing a broken watch crystal.

Process for doing a battery change?

Open the back of the watch, take the battery out, put a new one in, put the back of the watch back on.
Or take it to a local jeweler, ask what they charge and how long to do it. It's usually $5 to $10 depending on the price of the battery.

How can I remove the back to change battery?

Yep.. unless you have a self winding one. They require a sharp jewelers tool to open.. Sometime you can do it yourself , but you chance ruining the watch with scratches. The jeweler puts the watch in a holder that protects the crown and steady the watch. He then takes a tool and inserts it in the seam of the watch back and pops the back open. After the battery is changed the back is pressed back into place by the devise that can put pressure on the back without risking cracking the crown.. Come on man it's only 8 bucks. Just remember once the back has been opened water proof can not be guaranteed anymore.

How to change battery on disney accutime watch and what type of battery is needed. Thanks!

You won't know what battery it takes until you pop the back off and see what battery is in there. I've opened two identical watches and on the inside they had different movements that required two completely different size batteries. The trickiest part with Disney watches I've done is if it's musical, getting that to reset. Be careful, a lot of people don't realize how easy it is to mess up those tiny little parts, get dust in there, put the back back on wrong etc...

How do you change a watch battery

Pretty sure you just pop off the back, take out the old battery and put in a new one. Stores that sold watch batteries use to do it for you, some don't now. Liability reasons they say.

Need to replace battery in my Colibri pendant watch. Can't figure out how to open case to change it.

Thank you for contacting FixYa.
  • Place the tip of your pocket knife in the slot on the back of the watch. Pry the back off.

  • Take your tweezers and grasp the metal piece that is hiding the battery.

  • Once that metal piece is out the battery should come out too.

  • Put the new battery in and cover it with the metal piece.

  • Put the back of the watch back on and snap it into place.

  • Best wishes. Jewel

How do you change the battery on an ebel watch

Unscrew or pry off the case back. Remove the metal strap holding the battery in place. Sometimes you have to remove screw in the metal strap. Look on the battery for the type and order by that number. Put back in with fingers or plastic tweezers. Do not use metal tweezers as it will short the battery.

How do i change the battery on a guess waterpro g95419g watch

If the watch is waterproof then you need a special wrench to remove back. If it is not then you can pry the back off with a fine knife blade. You can then change the battery. Most if the time it is easier to go to a watch shop and have them put in a new battery. Usually about 5 to 10 dollars.

    Changing a watch battery

I used a sharp penknife blade to remove the watch front by getting right on the base and pinching the glass off, (comes off quite easily) tilt the watch out of the case and see enough to prise battery out with a needle. The battery is a Maxwell SR920W or equivalent. Have ordered new batteries on ebay.
