I also want to adjust the fiber optic's so both of my 501's McIntosh logo's glow at the same intenscity one is brighter then the other the meter's glow at the same intenscity. I looked inside a little and all the led's are working I thinf it is just an ajustment ofthe fiber optic strands themselves. Thank you

Hi.

To clean the glass you need to take apart the whole thing. Disassembly starts from screws at the bottom. once the front panel is out you disassemble the front panel to reach the glass from behind.

Regarding the optic fibers, those have no electronic inside. Their functioning is purely based on physical principles. If one fiber is dimmer than the other, then it is either damaged inside, or not placed in the correct way in the assembly.

Here the full service manual. Disassembly diagrams (exploded views) are available at pages 15 and 16.

Regards.

Ginko

How to get optical to work

You hear about fiber optic cables whenever people talk about the telephone system, the cable TV system or the Internet. Fiber-optic lines are strands of optically pure glass as thin as a human hair that carry digital information over long distances. They are also used in medical imaging and mechanical engineering inspection.

In this article, we will show you how these tiny strands of glass transmit light and the fascinating way that these strands are made. Fiber Optic Patch Cables

Fiber optic plug does not connect

Optical fiber connectors need to be clean in order to work properly, they need some special cleaning tools, you have to ask for them at the electronic store, normally you should avoid disconnecting and reconnecting fiber optic connectors a lot.

Optical fiber is just a transmission medium just like the copper, you should not worry about your phone, if everything goes well it should be working better than ever with high speed data capability as a plus, just think of the optical fiber as your ordinary cable but is made of glass instead of copper.

try to run auto gradation adjust press * with head then go to adjustment/cleaning and follow the instruction or check the optical mirrors for dust contamination if is dirty you can remove 2 screws and remove the glass then wipe all the mirror with lint free paper or cloth( do this first before running the gradation adjustments)

Adjustment for light copies on a xerox m20i

You will need to do a couple of things, 1 remove, disassemble the scanner and thoroughly clean it, and while you have the scanner out, remove and clean the laser.
The toner cartridge may also be defective. that metering blade in that cartridge fails and causes light images also.
If you need instructions on how to remove and clean the scanner and laser let me know, I will type them out to you.
Not hard, just time consuming.
If you print out a report how does that look? If prints look fine and just the copies are light, then the mirrors in the scanner head a re probably fogged up. All the plastic in that scanner causes that same film on your scanner optics as you develop on your car windshield. Same process.

There are no fiber optics in the copier. It has 6 mirrors that send the image to the drum unit. Did you try to clean the copyboard glass? Also, do the marks move up and down the page? Also, have you replaced the drum cartridge recently? Pull the drum unit out can you see track marks on the drum it self. If not I would have to say it may be comming from the fixing ass'y, the hot part of the copier. Try to use a dry rag and wipe up any loose toner in the paper path then try to run some blank pages in the copier this may clear up the problem...
