Hello.
at the back of the printer, just near the USB cable input there should be a phone line input, plug the phone line into this port.

HP 2727nf fax machine Fax not working what is the problem ?

Get an analog phone to test your phone line first. Then, make sure this line is connected to LINE port on your fax machine. Use the same analog phone to connect to the EXT port to test the line again.

Use another line to call this fax number to see whether the analog phone rings. Once you know the line and connection is okay, let's reset your fax machine. See http://www.fixya.com/support/t2503076-hp_laserjet_m2727nf_mfp for the cold reset instruction.

Lexmark platinum pro905 fax

If you're having problems sending faxes, make sure that the printer is connected to an active phone line. The best setup would be to connect the printer straight to a wall jack and the other end of the phone cable should be connected to the line port at the back of the printer.

If you're having receiving faxes, check the fax settings > Ringing and Answering. Check if the Auto Answer is enabled and check how many rings the fax will pick up any faxes sent to your number. If you have an answering machine connected to the same line, set the printer to pick up 3 rings higher than your fax machine. If you have a voicemail service, you'll need to get a distinctive ring feature from your phone provider.

How do you get the fax machine to work?

MY X5650 WILL SEND FAXES BUT NOT RECIEVE THEM

Are you sharing your home phone line with your fax? If so, do you have a voicemail or an answering machine connected in the same line?

If you have an answering machine connected to the same line as the fax, set the answering machine to answer incoming calls before the printer does. Increase the number of rings by a factor of 3 over the answering machine. For example, if the answering machine is set to pick up on 4 rings, set the printer to pick up on 7 rings.

If you have a voicemail feature in the same line as the fax, you may subscribe from your phone service provider for a distinctive ring pattern feature. You can program your printer to have a distinctive ring pattern and phone number for incoming faxes.

I have an HP 2510 printer. I cannot use it to fax because once I plug the phone jack into the printer I get a busy signal. If I plug the jack into a phone, it works fine. How do I get the printer to...

Hi irwinbadin,

HP fax products are designed so that other telephone equipment can be connected on the same line as the fax. The unit must be connected first using a two-conductor fax/phone cable like the one that shipped with the HP product. Using a four-conductor telephone cable may cause problems receiving faxes or calls.

There are two different types of phone cables. There are two-conductor phone cables like what originally shipped with the HP fax product and there are four-conductor cables. HP fax products are designed to work with a two-conductor phone cable. Look at the end of the cable and verify that it has only two copper leads or wires. Replace any four-conductor cables with a two-conductor cable. Only two-conductor phone cables should be used to connect the all-in-one to the phone line.

Figure 1: The difference between a two-conductor phone cable and a four-conductor phone cable
reyjoshua07_5.jpg

Step one: Connect the phone line to the fax
The fax will have two or three sockets (or jacks) for phone lines. Some of these may have a removable plastic plug in them. These sockets will be labeled with text, To Wall Jack , or with a graphic of the wall jack. See Figure 1 below.

Plug the two-conductor telephone cable that came with the HP product into the telephone wall jack. Then, plug it into this socket as shown below.

In areas with above ground telephone lines and electrical storms (lightning), it is a good idea to purchase a telephone line surge suppressor and connect it between the telephone wall jack and the fax. This will help prevent damage to the fax from a lightning-caused power surge on the phone line.

Step two: Add other phone-line devices
To connect other telephone devices, use the other socket (or sockets) on the fax. These are identified by text or with a graphic of a telephone and/or computer.

Connect a caller ID unit between the fax and the telephone.
Use the information below that matches the devices you need to connect.

Fax and telephone
Connect a single-line telephone to one of the added sockets on the fax. The telephone will share the same phone line as the fax. See the illustration below.

Fax, answering machine, and telephone
When a telephone answering machine and telephone are connected, connect the answering machine to the fax and then connect the telephone to the answering machine as shown below.

reyjoshua07_8.jpg

Fax and computer modem
To use a fax and a computer modem on the same phone line, connect the fax to the computer modem. The modem socket on the computer may be labeled Line or Wall jack .

reyjoshua07_9.jpg

Fax, computer modem, and telephone
To use a computer modem and a telephone with the fax, connect the computer modem to the fax. Then, connect the telephone into the second phone line connector on the computer modem or the third fax socket (if it is available). The image below shows how to connect a computer and a telephone to a fax with two sockets.

reyjoshua07_10.jpg

Fax, modem, answering machine, and telephone
The image below shows how to connect a computer modem, answering machine, and telephone to a fax. Connect the computer modem to the fax, then connect the answering machine to the computer, and finally, connect the telephone to the answering machine.
If the fax has three phone line sockets instead of two, some of the devices can be connected to the other phone socket on the fax.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Fax machine not sending documents

A) Run the fax test on the printer itself to see if it's connected properly and has an active phone line.. HP All-in-one printers still make a dial tone sound even if they aren't connected to a phone line. To run the test 1)..Press the SETUP button. Press the down arrow button until "Tools" is highlighted then pres OK. 2) Press down arrow key again and select "Run Fax test" The printer will then print out the results. It will tell you if anything fails. If it does, the correct the problem it mentions. IF everything passes, then the problem is likely your cable phone line which is a "Digital" and Fax machines still use an analog signal. Here is what you can try to overcome the deficiencies in a cable phone system. 1) Set your fax speed to Medium 2) Turn your ECM (Error correction mode) OFF
To set your fax speed, Press the SETUP button again.. Press your down arrow again until you find "Advanced Fax Settings" and the press OK.. arrow down until you find "Fax Speed" and hit OK. Then choose Medium (14,400) and press OK This will take you to your previous menu (Advanced Fax setings).. Find "ECM Choose OK again.. Then choose OFF and press OK. Press the X button on your printer's control panel and then Retry your fax.. Hope this helps

Is there a fax number for people to fax you?

Yes,
It is the phone number assigned to the phone line you plugged into the fax machine. You Fax machine is basically a Modem listening to the phone line. Someone dials and if they are sending a fax, the two machine's make squealing noises called a "handsake" then connect sends data.
It is then stored or printed or both.

If you pick up the phone while the two fax machines are connecting.
You will most likely disconnect the data transfer and get an ear full.

Hope this helps!

Only if you have fax software on your computer and scan an image to the computer to fax, otherwise you need a really long phone cable you can buy at Radio Shack or Best Buy.

FAX LINE NOT RINGING TO TELEPHONE

This is what is called a ring trip.

unplug your fax machine and plug in a normal phone. call the fax line. let it ring a few times. if the phone rings, but not the fax machine, check the cord of the fax machine and replace it. if the fax machine still does it, there is a short circuit somewhere in the machine. it is most likely in or around the jack that connects it to the phone cord, check for corrosion or bent contact pins.

if it rings only once or not at all, then check the phone jack for corrosion. trace it all the way back to where your phone line connects to your house. if it is still not ringing, call your telco to get them to check thier equipment.
