Question about Garden

1 Answer

I have a Ryobi RC30 that I use for mostly edging. Love it! The pull cord will pull fine but it is not longer engaging the engine. Is this issue the clutch or the pull cord assembly? Am I even close? I took it all apart but to get to these parts I have to get the front drum connector off? How do I do that without destroying it? I believe the clutch assembly is also in under there.

The clutch is a separate part from the puller, on the other side of the engine. To do it properly you should watch the official tutorial video

Edging when heard a loud pop like a spring or cable broke while running at high rpm's, engine shut down.....now starter cord pulls freely. what's wrong?

Hi William:
This is fun because it's already broken so you can't easily make it worse.
I'd start by making a clear spot on the workbench and then start taking it apart. Label the parts, keep them organized, and maybe even take a few pictures as you progress.
Think of it as fun. Every bit you remove has a purpose, so try to check the functions as you go. When something doesn't do what you think it should, you've probably found the problem.

Pull start not engaging

It sounds like the pawls are not engaging These are inside the pull cord you will have to replace the pawl springs which can be hard or easy depending on your model. To get at them take off the pull cord cover and remove the whole unit from the motor be careful not to let the spring loose. give the cord a pull and see if the pawls are expanding if not then they will have to be replaced or the springs replaced

I have a 2 year old Ryobi RY34440 String trimmer, 30cc. Last year worked fine, this year pull cord is so easy to pull it doesn't even turn engine over. Is is the spark plug?

Either the pull starter is not pulling or you are not getting compression. To check you need to check the spark plug is still snug. If so, remove the plug and put a drinking straw in the hole to touch the piston. Slowly pull the starter to see if the piston is moving. If the piston is moving and the plug was snug then you are losing compression somewhere, like a head gasket. If not moving then the problem most likely is in the starter, and disassembly required to investigate.

If really helpful, please rate.

Brand new Powerwinch rc30. It worked fine, 2 times pulling my 21ft. Gradywhite onto the trailer. The third time failed- slipped clutch. Boat weight is 2900 lbs. without motor and fuel. Should I have...

I would try to get it repaired Under warranty.
And later use it in double line...
The weight of your boat is 1, the force needed to pull your boat on the trailer is another thing...

3. Move choke lever to 1/2 choke and pull cord 2-3 times until engine starts - - allow to warm up (about 30 seconds) and move choke lever to no choke / / /
4. If engine does not start, repeat 1-3

Ryobi BC30 trimmer - pull cord not engaging to turn over engine

The "pully" that you are refering to is called the recoil. There are a couple of simple reasons why this won't catch on the flywheel and if you try to fix it your self it will most likely fly apart and scare the living daylights out of you. Either order a new recoil unit off of Ebay or from a reputable dealer and save yourself the headache.

you have to remove the starter housing, inside will be 2 knobs that spring out when the cord is pulled that contact the flywheel cap of the motor and rotates the crank. check if they are missing or damaged and that they ejecting when the cord is pulled. if not; replace.
