I took the screw out of the bottom of the bowl, had to remove the air filter assembly to get to the bowl....it is on there pretty tight so I didn't get it off- shouldn't it just pull off?....also, with the screw out of the bowl and the carb loose, should gas flow freely when I open the valve?....I turned the valve with the carb off and just a few drops came out of the bowl....thanks, Andy

Hi! I'm going to throw some possibilities out there and some may sound stupid but I want to cover all of our bases and they are arranged in order of the most likely cause of the problem and in order of the troubleshooting teps you should take.

  1. Have you attempted to prime the line/tank?
  2. The most common cause of having zero response when you attempt to start it is a bad spark plug connection to the plug. Check the boot to the plug and the terminal connector and make sure that everything is OK. The prior owner may have intentionally disconnected it for storage or may have removed the sparkplug entirely.
  3. If the connections seem OK, try replacing the sparkplug. The gap tolerance is .028 to .036.
  4. Again, since this is used, Check your battery, make sure it's actually connected and then make sure that it's actually good. Give it a charge if necessary, if it doesn't take, replace it.
  5. Your model has an option for an electric starter. If yours came with this, again check all of the connection.
  6. The last thing I could recommend would be to check the fuel line but since you didn't mention the smell of gasoline I doubt that it's damaged, however it could be gunked up. The problem with buying used even if the item is "like new" is that you never know to what extent that the previous owner used it, and whether it was just cleaned up really well to make it look like new.
If you have any more questions or can provide more information, let me know and I'll be glad to help however I can. Thanks for using FIxYa, Andy!

Check plug and make sure its the right one, replace if needed, check air filter.replace if necessary and theres a bowl under carburator,a screw is holding it on,block fuel line going to carb.,then remove screw under bowl,be careful, theres a rubber gasket on lip of bowl.Clean bowl with clean towel and push up on float to make sure float is not stuck, put bowl back on with rubber gasket, tighten screw and uncrimp gas line and start it up.

Hi, when you say you cleaned the carb, did you strip it down and blow all the jets out with compressed air? If so, check that you have fuel flowing into the carb. If all this is ok check the valve clearances. Regards Phil.

I have a Poulan Pro leaf blower/vac. The fuel lines cracked inside the gas tank so I pulled them out & bought new ones. Now i can't get them back in to the gas tank. I understand there are

Make sure that you have the right size lines the smaller diameter line goes into the bottom hole of the tank cut a 45 angle at the end of the line as you put the line into the tank twist and push until you get enough line to pull up through the fuel filler hole then cut the line so that the 45 is no longer and slip the fuel filter on then pull back the line until the filter rests at the bottom of the tank. Do the same with the upper line except that line will only go in 3 to 4 inches. I hope this helps you.

Does the fuel lines just stick into the holes on the gas tank?

Yes, the fuel line and return line simply feed throught the holes in the gas tank but they should go in tight enough that they won't come out by themselves and gas doesn't leak out.

Poulan pro weedeater will not start without starting fluid and wont accelerate after starting Once started the first time it is easy to restart and idles fine, just cant accelerate the motor without it...

Your carburator is clogged.
1st make sure you have FRESH gas.
Empty and clean the fuel tank
Remove and disassemble the carburator and soak it in fresh gas for about 15 minutes to disolve any gunk.

Using a can of small carburator cleaner ( available at Lowes, Home Depot etc.) blow out all the ports.
reassemble and refuel with clean fresh gas
The little carbs clog easily
