Try a wamer setting. If it keeps doing it no matter what maybe the thermostat is bad.

Your defrost system is bad. When the unit freezes up, the air flow shuts down and you don't cool. When you turm it off, it thaws out and starts to work again. We have parts so give us a call if you like. Hope this helps! Ella

Freezer cycling on and off, will freeze then thaw out

You have a defrost timer that has possibly slowed down because it is defective. I need you to time the defrost timer or turn the defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment until the refrigerator compressor stops running. It should remain off for about 20 minutes. If a lot longer and the refrigerator does not defrost regularly about 3 times a day then it needs to be replaced. Yes there could be something other than the timer, but if you need my help I'm here let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

It just quit after a couple of months of very little use.

Most likely you have a defrost problem. When you unplug it for a couple of days, it thaws out and you plug it back in and it works until it freezes up again. Possible problem ...1 of 3...defrost timer...2 of 3...defrost heater...3 of 3...defrost bi-metal.
