Re: Failure to print properly
Is the machine a digital machine? If so there is a slight chance that the reason for the problem is that the mirrors are dirty under the copy glass. Remove glass and using glass cleaner on a soft cloth clean mirrors. Do not remove mirrors........
Clean copy glass and replace. If problem still there poss developer change or drum unit but most common is optic section. Also clean a **** glass in the machine. Open the door and you will notice a glass rod sticking out just above the drum unit. Remove clean and reinstall.

if your referring to photocopying but printout is darker, it doesnt work. canon copiers produce copies like the original or better than the original sometimes. try to scan the file in custom mode and adjust the brightness and contrast and click preview to view the outcome before scanning it then print it later
If internally generated prints are good, but copied documents are bad then your scanner needs cleaning. This can be found in the document feeder section where the light scans across the paper. If both copied and internally generated prints are bad, then chance are, your toner/drum catridge has run out.
Just fyi, a Canon PC-6e is a copier that is about ten + years old of a model... The drum unit will make the copies better.... But, you most likely need to clean the optic's. Have you tried to make the copies lighter??? If I am correct, there is a small botton on the control pannel that will turn... It will make the copies light one way and darker the other way... Good Luck
