Question about HP LaserJet 1600 Printer

HI tech, I have this HP LJ1600 and I have this mark on the right hand side from top to bottom just as a roller mark the page. When I do a self test page there is a colour band on the right and it is split in half. left side of that band is OK and the right side is confused... splash

If the band is one particular color then it is quite possible that you have a bad toner cartridge of the color that matches the band. You can also try printing a test page from the secondary service menu. Access the menu as follows:

To enter the secondary service menu, use the following procedure:

1. Confirm that the device is in a Ready state.

2. Press the button (Select) to enter the main menu system.

3. Press the button (Left arrow) and the button (Cancel Job) simultaneously.

4. Press the button (Select) to confirm 2ndary Service.

5. Press the (Left arrow) button and button (Right arrow) to navigate to the secondary
service menu.

Find the option for test print.

Solution two: Check the paper The condition of the paper or the amount of paper loaded might prevent the rollers from picking it up and feeding it through the product. Use the following steps to check the paper in the input tray.
  1. Remove any wrinkled or damaged paper from the input tray.
  2. Make sure that all the paper is the same size and type.
  3. Tap the stack of paper on a flat surface to align the edges.
  4. Make sure that the stack of paper contains from 10 to 25 sheets of paper.
    NOTE: Do not overload the input tray. Make sure the stack of paper is shorter than the top of the paper width guide.

Solution three: Check the print settings The paper settings in the print driver must match the paper size and type loaded in the product. Use the following instructions to adjust the paper settings.
  1. In the software program you are printing from, click File .
  2. Click Print , and then click Setup , Properties , or Preferences .
    NOTE: The specific options might vary depending on the software program.
  3. Click the Features tab.
  4. In the Basic Options pane, select More from the Paper sizes drop-down list.
  5. Select the size of paper loaded in the product, and then click OK .
  6. In the Basic Options pane, select More from the Paper type drop-down list.
  7. Select the type of paper that you loaded, and then click OK .

I am getting ghost images on a HP P2015. Top third of page repeated twice more once at half page and again toward bottom of page. Even happens when printing test page by pressing the "Go" button...


Hi,

Sounds like the fuser unit roller needs cleaned to do so let it cool down & then take some celophane clear tape about 7 inches long & roll it into the rollers by turning the gear to where the sticky side is against the grey "hot" roller.

This should fix the problem, also best practise to do this on any roller you can see within the printer.

I have an HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One that was purchased in 2008. I have using it to scan slides and create JPEG files from which I have been making prints, mostly 4x6 format. Just today for the first...


Issue The All-in-One is working, but the printed output is not straight on the page. It is skewed or crooked. Solution Follow these steps to resolve this issue: Step one: Ensure that the paper is loaded correctly
  1. To make sure that the paper is loaded correctly, check the following conditions:
    • The right side of the paper is even with the right side of the paper tray.
    • The paper guides are adjusted to the edges of the paper.
    • The paper is flat in the tray.
  2. Make sure only one type of paper is loaded in the All-in-One.
  3. Make sure the rear access door is securely installed.
Print a diagnostic page If no identifiable problem exists with the paper or the guides, print a test diagnostic page to see if the unit is operating correctly. Follow these steps to print a diagnostic page:
  1. Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
  2. Touch the Setup icon on the display.
  3. Touch Tools .
  4. Touch Self-Test Report . The HP All-in-One prints a Self-Test report, which might show the source of the printing problem.
Validate that the printer is within skew tolerance Follow these steps to validate that the printer is within skew tolerance using the self test report:
  1. Fold the paper horizontally into half. Look through the paper to see the single and double lines at the top and bottom of the page.
  2. The line over the single line and the line below the two lines should overlap exactly.
  3. The single line at the top of the page should fall between the two lines at the bottom of the page.
Step two: Clean the paper rollers Follow these steps to clean the paper rollers:
  1. Turn off the unit and unplug the power cord.
  2. Remove the rear access door.
  3. Wipe the paper rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled or bottled water. Rotate the rollers with your fingers to clean all the way around.
  4. Allow the rollers to dry completely, and then replace the rear access door.
  5. Plug the unit back in and turn it on.

Hi,

If printing is skewed, feeding multiple pages or jamming, please follow these instructions (use a regular letter size paper to test after doing the steps given below):
Please check to ensure there is nothing obstructing the paper feed mechanism down inside the printer where it is not easily seen. If there is nothing obvious, unplug the printer and remove the paper. Open the front cover and look above the steel rod. You should see a conveyor belt with rubber teeth on it, like a fan belt. Take the bottom part of that belt and move it gently to the left. The cartridges should come out with it. Make sure the cartridges can move fully from one side of the printer to the other. Check also the output rollers on the bottom of the printer for any blockage. If it is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot. Turn the printer off. Next take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the paper feed slot (The manual paper feed slot is preferred, but the automatic feed will do if there is no manual paper feed for this printer) until it comes completely through the printer to the back of the exit rollers. Move it up and down and slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate this may work it loose or you may have to feed the envelope through the front rollers and push your way backward (please be careful here).
Next, take a damp warm cloth and clean the rubber rollers in the automatic sheet feeder. Dust may be coating the rollers there and as they become less tacky, they cannot feed paper correctly.
Then plug the printer back up, take your paper out and replace it with a fresh, small stack (about 5 pages) of paper. Quickly bend the stack in an 'S' shape a few times to separate pages. Make sure it is lined up on the right side of the paper feed and the paper guide on the left is snug on the left side of the paper. Then try to form feed again. If that works, then try to print the self test page.

Begin by disconnecting the power supply from the wall (not the back of the printer) for at least "30 seconds." This is essential. Then plug the printer back in and follow these steps:
1. Press the "Copy" button.
2. Press the "Menu" button.
3. Press the down arrow button once or until the screen displays "Maintenance."
4. Press the check mark button to select the "Maintenance" menu.
5. Press the down arrow button three times until the screen displays "Print Test Page."
6. Press the check mark button to select this. The Self-Test will start printing.
The self-test should at least print out a set of either black or color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously.) Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with the color cartridge installed. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let me know.

Our OKI is printing 3 black marks down the right hand side of the page


Hi,

The black marks normally comes from a worn fusing unit. in most printer nowadays, you buy a maintenance kit that comprises of roller, pickup rollers, fusing unit and drum. after changing those items mentioned above, you should correct the 3 black marks on your printouts.

Try printing a test page, if the problem appears there too, it could be a print head problem. But try a new ink cartridge first, to make sure that's not whats defective.

Since it's new, you should consider exchanging it while you can.

Paper not loading


Most of the Lexmark printers (including the Z- and X- series) pull the paper down on one side slightly faster than the other. The printer hardware should even this out when printing. You should also ensure the paper meets the automatic feeder requirements of the printer.

5. Press the “Up” arrow button two times. The screen will display “Single Test Page”.
6. Press the “Start” button once.
7. This will start the Self-Test. Once the page has printed, the printer will stop. The test is not continuous.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either a solid black or solid color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, please try it again without cartridge installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without the cartridge installed, run the self-test again with only a color cartridge installed. If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.
If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know. This includes any print quality issues - we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.

If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault.

if your roller mark seems grayish it could be cause by a dirty roller in the paper path, open up your printer and clean with alcohol, there were some cases that the rollers were somehow softened and causing mark along the prints if this is the case you need to send thi to a tech for a part replacement

hmmm...sounds like your toner cartridge is truly unhappy. I'd return it if I were you.

no worries..start by getting new driver for that here
