Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I am installing a Dometic Brisk Air A/C unit on my popup camper. The A/C unit came in a box with the black neoprene gashet glued around the base that goes around the hole in the roof. There are also some light grey foam blocks that are attached to the unit further out from the black one. Should they be left on or taken off before tightening down the unit to the roof. Should the black gasket be the only one left on?

The grey ones I believe you are asking about are thinner than the black one, so when the black one is compressed when tightened, the grey ones just add a little support at each end. I'd leave them on, can't hurt.

I'm purchasing a generator to power the Dometic Duo Therm Brisk Air A/C unit in my camper. How many watts does it draw?

You will need at least a 5000 watt generator to run that and a few lights etc... for the camper.

My dometic 15k brisk-air cont. cycles on-off

Actually, the dealer is somewhat correct. In the hotter months of the summer, the rooftop units have a tendency to freeze up if not run on high cool due to the lack of air movement across the evaporator. If the unit fines on High/Cool, then run it in that mode but adjust the thermostat.

It should not however, cycle on and off that fast unless you have a bad freeze switch or the incoming AC is too low. If during that 8-10 seconds, the air begins to get cold and then it shuts off, then I would say you have a bad freeze switch. If it runs fine on high, but shuts off in low, I would say it is a lack of air movement.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

2000 roof-top Brisk-Air

I think you have a high pressure cutoff cycling the compressor on and off. Clean the filter inside the unit. Then with a hose clean out the foil condenser filter on top of the camper. Also you may need to buy a coil comb and comb out bent or damaged areas of the condenser coil on the unit that is above the roof of the camper.
