SOURCE: Asus V6J reset cmos button please

The computer should show you a key to hit to enter the setup. Nomally the keys may be F2, F10, DEL, or some other key.
If your computer does not even give you any display, then you can't enter setup--it's failing the POST which means it won't work at all.
In a laptop, you could take it apart far enough to find the CMOS battery and disconnect it to reset the CMOS, but I'm thinking you might have a hardware problem here--like maybe a motherboard.
One thing you can do is unplug it, remove the battery, then reinstall the battery, plug it in and try again. In a laptop, anything further will require dissembling the case.

My Asus X553M laptop is not booting up. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Temitope, Hard reset. Open computer, remove battery, hold power button down (((1 minute))), reinsert battery, reassemble laptop, push/hold power button a couple seconds.
2nd fix, try to boot laptop without hdd.(hard drive). Remove the hdd, then turn on the laptop.. then it can get into the bios.. reset the bios to the default setting, turn off the laptop, and then turn it on again with hdd reinstalled. This seems to be what works in the forums with this issue found in Asus laptops. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Most people do not realize that a laptop has 2 batteries... the normal 4-6-9 cell battery that we constantly recharge and a smaller (internal) battery to maintain CMOS memory where the clock and other data are stored.

The CMOS battery is normally inexpensive, typically you can find them in a good electronics store or even on ebay. They are easy to change as they typically have a quick disconnect plug. I am not sure where it is located on the ASUS, but look in the memory compartment or the hard drive compartment.

I'm not giving you a solution, but maybe a suggestion that may help, It could be that there is a error in the bios and resetting it may help. If you havn't, try loading default value for it, when you are in the bios menua, go to exit and scroll down to "load default value" and save and exit and see if any happens. If not, unplugg your wire and battery and take the back service port out and take out the rams and press on your power button for a few about 30sec to see if the bios would do a hard reset, and reinstall everything back on and see if that would work, if not, you might need to take out the cmos battery to reset the bios which you will have to tear your netbook apart in this method. I hope this can help, and hopefully it's a easy fix.

How to remove restricted access

Reset the CMOS (BIOS memory).
You do that and it will remove and BIOS passwords.

It will tell how to "clear CMOS" in the motherboard manual.
Or you can try unplugging the computer, and removing the little CMOS button cell battery for a few minutes.
Note if you do clear it, you'll probably have to set a few BIOS settings from the defaults.

Disconnect the power cable, press and hold the power button. Open the case, remove the cmos battery and short the cmos battery connectors (just touch both the metal tabs center and edge at the same time) with a screwdriver. Replace cmos battery, reconnect the power and power on. This should reset the BIOS to default settings.

How to reset Asus PC-DL Deluxe BIOS

Remove the Lithium Flat Battery from the motherboard, then start the machine. Let it run for about 5-10 seconds and then turn it off and put the battery back in.

Some motherboards when you try to power it up without the battery, will not turn on. Press the power button 2-3 times and then place the battery back in and it should achieve the same results.
