Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

Bought a used Electrolux canister vacuum cleaner on Ebay. Worked for about 15 minutes. Opened bag area to see what size needed to order more bags and now bag light stays and unit won't work or unit will now work when hose is attached. It starts up for a second and then shuts off and the yellow bag light goes on. There is no obstruction in the hose

The switch inside is there and works fine. The unit works when the hose is not attached. Once it is attached the unit will turn on and then shut off immediately.

The switch you mentioned is there are works fine. The problem appears to be more with the inlet area. When nothing is attached the suction and vacuum work. Once something covers over the outlet the yellow bag light comes on and the unit shuts off. Or if I try to attach the hose, the unit will turn on for a second and then it shuts off and the yellow light comes on.

My first guess would be that the switch insidet the bag door is not pushed in (or missing).

The cardboard frame around the bag is supposed to push it in when the bag is properly positioned and the bag door is closed. The switch may be missing or loose.

The switch is there to make sure you don't run the vacuum without a bag.

good luck.

After looking into it more (and finding out the simple answer didn't work for you), I found that this is a known problem with the Electrolux cannisters. If you model has a dial that controls the suction on the unit, you can try to adjust that (to turn down the suction - it opens some vents in the cannister. If that doesn't work, there is a "control valve" just below that dial (or somewhere in the unit if you don't have a dial).

The control valve shuts the unit down if there is an apparent block - the sensor is bad so it always things there is a block in your unit (unless no real vacuum is formed in the cannister when you have no hose).

getting it apart may be a challenge (sealed system). Some vacuum repair stores work dirt cheap so you may want to bring it in for an estimate before you do anything yourself.

If you decide to do it yourself, The parts are available from on-line vacuum/appliance parts stores (http://evacuumstore.com/ ).

    Good luck.

Put the vac on it's side and pull off the sliders on both sides.Carefully pull machine apart.lift the front of the piece that hold you bag.Underneathe there is a clear tube plugged in to a round thing on switch area.Simply pull the tube out of the rouind trhing. This will allow you to fillthe bag without shut dow.Just make sure your bag doesn't get too full....Chris

Electrolux 2100 vac dies when you attach hose even with new bag.

If the bag full light keeps coming on, you can first try adjusting the dial on top of the vacuum cleaner. If that does not work, then you need to change the control valve. This is an internal component of the canister and is directly below the dial. You will need to follow the instructions on a previous post to open the Electrolux plastic canister vacuum, and remove the bage cage. Once you remove the bage cage you can change the control valve, and this will solve your problem with the bag full indicator.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. In the door there are vacuum lines that could be pinched or bent and are not letting air through to the bag, the system is designed that if the bag get to full or the air flow is restricted it will pop the door open and save the motor from burn out. This is repairable and nor to expensive and to check with the local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to call the Electrolux cust serv @ the factory for further information. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
