    Thanks for your assistance.

It is a Fisher and Pykel Model ED56.

    Hi there!

I have done what you have told me, even though I am able to spin the drum by hand, it is quite difficult and does not continue once I stop spinning it.

My husband and I opened the back of the dryer and it looked lik the drum cable was still intact, so am not sure what it could be.

    Thanks for your help.

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I'll start by saying your post indicates it is a dryer heating but not tumbling, however if you could post the complete model number I can speak directly about possible remedies instead of generalizing.

There so many possible scenarios I'll need to clarify the model number before detailing much of course. Thank you for choosing FixYa. I'll need to watch for your reply before moving forward.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

    Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I've read your post, thank you for replying with the model number. I'll say up front I'm not as proficient with Fisher & Paykel as many other brands, but to me it sounds like a broken drum belt, thus allowing the motor to run, the heater to heat, but no drum movement.

If you feel capable of checking the belt that is what I'd suggest, though I wouldn't be entirely sure how to access it on that model.

You can open the door and turn the drum by hand and that is usually a good way to tell if the belt is broke or off if the drum spins freely with no resistance (this is often the first thing I will do when on-site to diagnos or repair)...with a belt intact you should also feel air blow out the back (or wherever your vent exits the machine (this may require an extra set of hands or eyes) by way of spinning the drum.

Let me know what you find and I'll be glad to help you moving forward from there in any manner I can, albeit generalizing unfortunately. Good luck.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

Whirlpool imperial series dryer heats not spinning

This problem is almost always a broken belt. Yes you can do it yourself.
Go to repairclinic. com and put in your model number for the exploded view of your dryer. Locate the belt part number and belt orientation.

Whirlpool Dryer, Heats up, but will not spin.

Thermal fuse , is the small white plastic piece on the blower box . That , keeps the dryer from running . Thermal cut-off , is the small thermostat on the burner (element) box , which would keep the dryer from heating .

How old is the dryer? The heating element is probably no good.
It's possible to fix it yourself. Make sure it's unplugged before you start. You might want to check a parts store, or online to see what the heating element would cost. when this goes bad, the dryer will still spin, and the heat stops instantly. It's a little tricky taking the panels off, but there's not too much to a dryer. An electric motor that powers a belt to make it spin, the heating element, metal sides, top and bottom. Good Luck!
