Question about Pool & Spa

1 Answer

I have a Sta-Rite multi-port filter valve that the pool company connected yesterday. I normally set it up each year. It seems to me that they connected the hose from the pump to the filter valve where the hose to the pool should be connected and visa versa. Before I turn the pump on I want to make sure it is hooked up correctly so I don't have problems. Can you send me a diagram for my valve so I know it is correct? I have the owner's manual but there is no diagram or discussion that helps my situation.

No this doesn't help. It's not marked. I checked that before. Since I didn't hear from you I started the filtr and pump configured like I remembered. It is working. Please refund my money.

Hi khovendick,

The pump should have some indication on it to show the water incoming and outgoing. Do you have this on yours? If not, I would need your model number.
If you find the connection on the Sta-Rite that says "water in", then this is where the line from the pump should be connected.

Hope this helps. If not, please reply back with model number.

Hose connections from pump to filter etc

what are you asking?
do you want to know how to plumb the individual pieces of equipment?
If so, skimmer port at the pool will go into the suction port of the pump, the port directly into the hair & lint pot.
discharge off the top of the pump will go into the Inlet of the filter valve, then the outlet of the filter will go to either a heater inlet port then outlet of the heater to the pool return inlet ports. If no heater, then from filter outlet directly to the pool return inlet fitting.

Good luck

Sta-Rite leaks out of backwash pipe.

not a good idea to switch valve when pump is running. you could try rebuilding the valve wit a kit and some magic lube. mark the valve with a marker or a file so you can be sur to reasemble it right

My sta-rite pump leaks out the backwash port looking for a rebuild kit

If you remove the bolts around the top the handle and lid assembly will pull out. Under that is a spider gasket that needs to be replaced. Clean out and dry the slots where the spokes of the gasket go, and replace with a new gasket using contact adhesive or vinyl adhesive to glue the gasket in. Do not put anything on the top of the gasket.

It's a good idea to replace the diverter o ring and bearing while you have it open. This requires removing the handle from the diverter. The o ring is on the diverter shaft, the bearing is the white plastic ring that goes between the lid and the handle. After that the backwash valve will work like new.

Which part do I need to replace to stop the leak in my Sta-Rite multi-port valve ?

I couldn't see the video, but which o ring to replace depends on where the leak is. If it is coming from the side of the valve, that would be the lid o ring. If it is coming from the top center of the valve, that would be the diverter shaft o ring. If your losing water out the waste line, that means the spider gasket under the diverter needs replacing.

When filtering water it is also leaking through back wash pipe it is a sand filter pantera hi-rate filter with sta-rite water flow control

Is this a multi-port valve offering back wash, no filter, rinse, etc. modes? Have you ever turned it counter clock wise? (Never turn it counter clock wise.)

You will need to remove the top and put a new gasket in the valve.

If it is Push Pull, remove the two screws at the top and pull the assembly out. Remove and replace all "O" rings. Lube with silicone grease for pools and reassemble.

I think this will fis you up.

Thanks for your question today.

I have a sta -rite valve and the handle does not turn. What could be the problem?

If I can assume that you are speaking about a sta-rite multi-port valve it is one or all of the following.
1. The silicone disk underneath the handle is worn (this is what makes the handle glide when trying to turn it)
2. The spider gasket inside the valve is worn and sticking.
3. The handle spring is rusted and catching on the valve body.
Solution: Replace spring, silicon disk and spider gasket.

I have a sta rite cristal flo sand filter and pump and i have asked a few questions about my problems before but i need more suggestions. My problem is that everytime i vacuum my pool the debris come back...

Hello my name is Israel and I will give you some advice. I had this problem with the same filter. It turned out to be the multiport valve. If you look at the diagram you have suggested you will noticed that even the manufacturer is now using a different valve. I think they finally noticed that they had a problem. I completely got away from a sand filter and went with a D-E filter system. It is a lot less troublesome and far superior to a sand filter. You might want to check on this. Even to replace the valve it is going to cost about $150. Good Luck.
