I cannot get a SanDisk flashdrive to go into either of the USB ports on my new desktop computer. I am using the USB ports located on top of the computer

To test the functionality of the usb ports in front of the computer
1. Insert another flash drive or another usb device like a usb mouse on front the computer 2. If it detect the usb device that means 2 things flash drive might be bad and the front usb port is working 3. If it does not, It means that the flash drive might be bad or the usb port is not connected to the front panel of the computer 4. Try also inserting the flash drive at the back of the computer see if the usb drive is detected in all ports 5. Check the BIOS for any usb port associativity

Lacie moskeyto is undetected in Windows 7

if your BIOS is set to "allow classic USB support" (or similar terminology), then you are restricted to the drivers available at the date of BIOS version (or your PCs date of manufacture). The reason is, 16gb flash dd not exist n 2006. Most PCs/BIOS before 2006 can only mount 4gb flash memory or less. Most 2007 through early 2009 is limited to 8gb (this is not a restriction for USB HDD enclosures, older PCs can mount hundreds of gigabytes with older BIOS drivers).

1. If your BIOS allows you to change this setting, deselecting it may allow the OS to load a driver (Vista and Win7 both have native 16gb drivers).

2. Updating BIOS, if a newer one is available for your PC is also a solution, as flash media driver updates are almost always included.

3. if neither options are available for your PC, then you can go get a specific driver for this device from LaCie.com

One caveat: LaCie is renowned for slicing flash memory into two partitions. One is usually a "fake" read-only CD partition. This will not work in many updated BIOS, and even some of the newest PCs. USB HDDs can have multiple partitions, but not flash memory. If this is the case with your PC, then again, your only solution will be getting a device-specific driver from LaCie.
