SOURCE: Please advise on where to puchase replacement

Hi howardandjan, You call it "old Qualcast punch" if it's called Qualcast punch it's not that old, it was originally called Suffolk punch (after the horse) and came in 14" and 17" cuts, the 30s (30cm approx 12") was originally called suffolk colt. when Qualcast took over just about all the british cylinder mowers Atco, suffolk, webb etc they started swapping names about but you should be able to get parts from any good mower shop try winchester garden machinery in hampshire always found them helpful

SOURCE: My mower is not cutting level. I have a new base

If the baseplate meets the cutting cylinder across the entire cutting width, it's adjusted properly.

Check that the front roller is level - it usually IS as simple as that.

If the roller has ben replaced with wheels, check that they are the same height.

SOURCE: i cannot start my Suffolk punch 43s petrol mower,

As far as I can tell, there are no downloads available. I eventually gave up and bought a copy from a mower museum. You will need to know the approximate age, as several diferrent engines have been fitted.

If you have the old red engine, the choke lever should be at right angles to the line of the carb IE pointing straight back.

The newer green engines are usually marked, but of not, remove the air filter and look into the carb throat. When the choke flap is CLOSED, the choke is ON IE cold start position.

As soon as the engie starts, move the choke to approx 50%, then fully open after 30 seconds or so.

If in good order, these engines are a 1-pull start. Fit a new plug, then spray WD-40 or similar into the OPEN carb thoat. If there is no sign of life at all, you have a coil failure (or possibly a points problem if it's ancient).

Hi, I have a suffolk punch 35s looks like the bearings are breaking up. trouble is I can't see how to remove the cutting blades from the case to get to the bearings. Anyone got any ideas ? bob

An old question but putting this here for anyone with a similar issue:

Remove the cutting cartridge from the mower. Remove the 24mm bolt holding on the drive cog (this is reverse threaded). Remove the grass shield at the rear of the cartridge (3 screws either side). Remove the top bar with handle (10mm socket recessed in the end of the bar. You should now be able to remove the blade, back off the adjusting screws either side and remove the bearing housings.

Ihave just purchased a qualcast suffolk punch 30s the question l have, how do l check the engine oil level, l know were to fill the engine oil.Regards.Brian Bromley

Take the oil cap off with a flash light look in. take a stick or something small enough to put in the hole it shouldn't go all the way down. Where it stops that is where the oil level should be if you can't see any oil there thin add oil just to that mark. DO NOT OVER FILL .

Qualcast Suffolk Punch 35s lawnmower running problems

There is a small idling mixture screw on the side of the carburettor.
As the engine is not well suited to the carb. it mainly runs on the idle setting!
As long as you are not leaving the choke on. This is a little tab on the top of the carb. You start with it set on C then soon set it on the middle position, and after about 3 mins turn it off.
